     mistpaw awoke, back in the medicine den. why am i back here? was that only a dream? she turned her head over to the entrance and seen leafpaw, who was asleep. i guess it wasnt a dream, but when did we come here?

     ' ' ah, mistpaw, youre up! ' ' a sudden voice coming from the back of the medicine den scared mistpaw, making her jump and turn over to the voice. ' ' apparently, you fainted again. and i dont think you can open your eye? ' '

     ' ' oh, i hadnt even notice my.. eye.. my eye! ' ' mistpaw started to freak out, ' ' i cant see out of my eye! I cant open it, i cant see! ' '

     mistpaw stood up and rushed to a puddle in the inside of the den, and saw her eye. It had a scar down the center of the eyelid and was impossible to open.

     ' ' mistpaw..? ' ' leafpaw mewed from behind mistpaw, her voice sounding rough from just waking up.

     ' ' good, both of you are up, ' ' twigwhisker sighed, ' ' i need to check both of you before i send you out. ' '

     mistpaw looked at leafpaw in concern. ' ' what happened? how come we are back here? ' '

     ' ' well, ' ' leafpaw began,' ' you fell into the river, unconscious i guess, and i had to get you out and back to your clan. ' '

     ' ' how come you stayed here? did they decide to keep you captive since you trespassed? ' '

     ' ' what? no- they kept me here because i was soaking from the river and it was dark. ' '

     ' ' oh. ' '

     moonpaw emerged into the medicine den, his eyes flickering back and forth, and stopping on leafpaw.

     ' ' why is she here? ' ' he hissed to twigwhisker.

     ' ' she brought your sister back here who almost died, ' ' twigwhisker glared at the tom, ' ' show some respect for others, would you? ' '

     moonpaw scoffed and padded over to his sister.

     ' ' you ok, mistpaw? ' ' he asked, concerned.

     ' ' yea, im fine, thanks to leafpaw, ' ' mistpaw smiled over to the riverclan apprentice.

     ' ' what were you doing at the river, anyways? ' ' he glared at his sister, ' ' you werent meeting up, were you? ' '

     ' ' what? no! ' ' mistpaw hissed, ' ' we just happened to bump into each other at the border while we were taking walks on our own territories. well, she was. I was getting herbs for lilypool and twigwhisker. ' '

     at least im telling half of the truth. I cant say that i crossed over and sat with her for a bit. mistpaw shifted in her nest, uncomfortable under her brothers glare.

     ' ' uh-huh.. ' ' moonpaw turned away from mistpaw and padded over to twigwhisker, ' ' the cobwebs ripped again on my wound. do you think you can patch it up? ' '

     twigwhisker groaned, ' ' this is the last time i will fix it. If you rip them again, im not going to give you more. you need to be more careful. ' '

     moonpaw snorted and layed down in a nest. leafpaw stood up and moved over to mistpaw and laid down with her.

     ' ' how come your brother is- ' '

     ' ' ignorant? I dont know. ' '

     ' ' i wasnt going to say ignorant, but careless. ' '

     mistpaw paused and thought, ' ' i.. I dont know. I sure wish he wasnt. he has been like this for forever, especially as a kit. ' '

     ' ' ah. ' '

     lilypool slipped into the den, mouth full of herbs. she noticed leafpaw next to mistpaw and set the herbs down near the storage.

     ' ' you feeling better, you two? ' ' lilypool asked.

     leafpaw and mistpaw nodded in sync causing lilypool to laugh a bit.

     ' ' well then leafpaw better get back to her clan and mistpaw, i have to talk to you, ' ' lilypool turned back to her herbs.

     ' ' can i go to the border with her? ' ' mistpaw asked, ' ' please? ' '

     lilypool stopped and thought, then nodded, ' ' but hurry please. I really do need to talk to you. ' '

     mistpaw quickly stood up and nodded a thanks to lilypool, then flicked her tail to leafpaw, gesturing for her to come. leafpaw stood up and left the den with mistpaw a few tail lengths ahead.

     mistpaw trudded through the muddy territory, ahead of leafpaw. She groan out of frustration.

     ' ' why does our territory have to be so muddy after a small rain shower, ' ' she flicked her paw, making mud fling off.

     ' ' i like the mud, if im gonna be honest, ' ' leafpaw said, ' ' but that might be because im a riverclan cat- ' '

     ' ' maybe.. ' '

     leafpaw let out a loud sigh, making mistpaw turn around.

     ' ' you ok? ' ' mistpaw asked

     ' ' yeah, i guess.. I just dont want to go back to riverclan. not with me having to care for the elders and kits and queens for starclan knows how long, ' ' leafpaw went on, ' ' and now that i disappeared for a night and half a day, my punishment will probably be extended. ' '

     mistpaw padded to leafpaw and rested her chin on her shoulder, as a sign of sympathy.

     ' ' mistpaw, ' ' leafpaw spoke up.

     ' ' hm? ' '

     ' ' have you ever thought of being a medicine cat? ' '

     mistpaw thought for a second. a medicine cat?

     ' ' i.. ' ' mistpaw didnt really know how to answer, ' ' i guess not? I mean, ive never thought of being one, since i wasnt born in the clans, and learning all those herbs seems like such a hassle. ' '

     ' ' but you seem too sweet to become a warrior. usually warriors are, well, angry at rival clan cats, ' ' leafpaw sighed, ' ' and youre so kind to me, despite being from separate clans. ' '

     ' ' i guess i never learned to dislike rival cats. Ive always believed that cats are cats. theres no separate kinds of blood, no difference species, you know what i mean. ' '

     ' ' i guess so, ' ' leafpaw sighed, ' ' we should get going to the river again. ' '

     ' ' mhm.. ' ' mistpaw nodded, then turned away and started towards the river.
