leafpaw padded along the stream that separated riverclan and thunderclan, looking for a good spot to settle and fish for her sick clanmates. she noticed that sunningrocks was not being used by thunderclan at the moment. what harm would it do to sit on one of the rocks while i fish? she thought, as she slipped over and onto the rock lowest to the river.

her narrow, deep green eyes gazed up and down the river, looking for a fish to snatch up out of the flowing water. as she saw a small fish begin to come out from under a rock that had been leaning over, slightly poking into the water.

as she leaned forward to swipe her paw into the water, a thud from across the river startled her, causing her to yelp and lose balance, falling into the cold water.

' ' whoops, sorry fish-face, ' ' a deep voice said, coming from the direction of the thud, ' ' i dont think you should stray so far away from her camp, kit. ' '

leafpaw looked up at the tom and spat out, ' ' im no kit! im a proud apprentice of riverclan. ' '

' ' uh-huh. so what, is riverclan running out of apprentices? ' ' the cat padded a little closer to sunningrocks, ' ' are they bringing up their puny kits too early? ' '

leafpaw snarled, trying to hide her embarrassment. she knew she was small and she hated it. especially when others made fun of her for it.

' ' i hope you know, too, that youre invading thunderclan territory, ' ' the tom glared at leafpaw, ' ' or does your clan keep that information from their apparent ' apprentices '? ' '

' ' please tell me youre not going to make a big deal for sitting on a rock and hunting to feed my clan, ' ' leafpaw mewed out of annoyance. she really didnt want to deal with this cat right now.

' ' youre still trespassing onto our territory, ' ' the tom replied to the small apprentice as he looked down at his claws he unsheathed, ' ' you are breaking a code, and you should be punished for that. ' '

leafpaw looked at the sharp claws the tom was cleaning, and gulped. what does he mean by punish?

as if the tom had read her mind, he replied, ' ' and since thunderclan seems to be a little boring right now.. I suppose i can, just maybe, start something between thunderclan and.. riverclan. ' '

before leafpaw had time to react, the tom jumped onto her rock and gave the small apprentice a frontal blow, slamming his paw down onto her head, knocking her off balance and causing her to fall off the rock.

leafpaw shakily stood up and turned to the tom, who had an amused look on his face.

' ' you should be more alert, kit. you wont do well in battle if you dont watch your surroundings, ' ' he told the apprentice.

' ' maybe if you didnt attack me for no reason, i wouldve been able to defend myself, ' ' leafpaw hissed back.

the tom snorted and jumped forward onto the apprentice, pinning her down. she glared up at him and kicked her hind legs into his stomach, winding him and making him let go of her. she scrambled away from him, attempting to go back to camp, but the tom swung his paw and gripped her hind leg, digging his long claws into her skin and fur.

the apprentice yelped in pain and turned to swing her claw at his face, slashing his eye. the tom hissed in pain and let her go, so she took that as a chance to run back to camp.

' ' coward! what an apprentice you are! ' ' the tom howled to the apprentice, ' ' ill get you next time you trespass! ' '
