*Flashbacks in bold*
Location: Budapest XIII. Police HQ
Time: 4:05 am, 15 days after the murder
She glanced at him one last time through the glass window before heading towards her makeshift office, that she still hadn't wrapped up. Somewhere at the back of her mind she knew that even if she was off the case, she will come back to it and not rest till it was solved. Well it was now. In the past few hours, they had asked Ali several questions, but he refused to answer any of them. He did deny the allegations, and asked the police to show proof. It was true that their source was not credible, but when a seed of suspicion was planted into their heads by Abigail's relentless theories and explanation, they had to listen to her. it took them a while to draft an arrest warrant, and that was done only after they had been assured that the CCTV footage was doctored. Thankfully the chief was not in the office that day, so she was saved from the reprimand.
She stood in front of the murder board and chuckled. She knew that Kathaleen was not the murderer since day 1. But she had to prove it, and now finally after reaching some conclusion, even though it was not the end of the case, she felt a little bit at ease. The police would get a confession out of him somehow, or at the very least prove that the time stamps in the footage were meddled with and charge him with that. So she was assured, that sooner or later the truth will come out. It always does.
The theory of Ali and Faiza having an affair was still running at the back of her head but now she had to let go of it. It was guaranteed that they couldn't touch Faiza without solid evidence, but that was not her headache now. She had done what she had to, give jumpstart to solving the case. Now it was the police's job. She was a little disappointed though, that she couldn't find a connection between Pasha's organization and the killer. If her memory served her right, she had once read about a missing man who used to work under him. Jamal, that was probably his name. She had hoped that she would find him in Europe, and that this murder could somehow be connected to him. But alas, it wasn't.
Abigail shrugged the thoughts off her shoulders and started to unpin the pictures from the board when Ivan stopped by.
"What? You don't want to stay back till the confession?"
"Nope. My work here is done. I don't think the Interpol needs to be involved in this any further since there's no connection to international crime. Time to go back to my world. More papers and less field work." She made a face, which made Ivan laugh.
"I still don't understand why he would kill Pasha though."
He repeated the questions in her mind, staring at the board.
"I'm telling you, it's probably a case of an affair."
"Huh right, who's going to prove that now?"
She pointed at him and they laughed.
They continued to chat and take off things from the board, but something caught Abigail's eye that slowed her down, and then stop doing what she was doing completely.
"What is it?" Ivan sensed her reluctance.
"Do you see this picture?" she said, pointing at a picture from the crime scene. "Look here, below the sink. There's no cufflink."
