Troye POV
The mall was extra crowded today since it was the weekend, probably not the best time to go Christmas gift shopping but it was better than trying to get everything accomplished on Christmas Eve like I probably would have done if it wasn't for Tyler's constant nagging about how we had to go to the mall. A hundred different faces whizzed by in a blur as people came from all directions, stampeding through the crowd trying to get to the store with the best deals for their holiday shopping. This is also something I've learned about Christmas, people get crazy when it comes to 15% off a pair of shoes.
Tyler sensed my nervous state and squeezed my hand tighter as he maneuvered like a professional through the swarms of people. I never liked crowds, all those people in such a tight space reminded me of getting lost with no one to save you. The unfamiliar places were the ones that freaked me out the most, every foreign sound and face was just another reminder that I was nowhere near what I was used to.
I felt my chest start to tighten and my palms became sweaty as Tyler pulled us into a store I had never heard of before. It was fairly empty, only a few people lingered around the racks of clothes, none looking to intent on buying anything.
"Babe look at me." Tyler said as he waved a hand in front of my face. I guess I must have gotten lost in my thoughts again, I do that quite often when I'm nervous. I become so focused on small details that I forget what the big picture is until it's too late and I find myself in the situation that I feared in the first place.
"Troye are you okay?" Tyler asked with a concerned tone to his voice.
"Yeah, don't worry about me I'm good." I said with a half convincing smile. I thought he believed me but this was Tyler we were talking about, he knew me better than anyone else did. Sometimes I almost feel like he knows me better then I know myself.
"Let's just wait here for a little until the rush dies down." Tyler said with a soft smile and I silently thanked him for not calling me out on my lie.
We decided to wait in the small store until it became less of a maze out in the long corridors of the mall and to pass the time we decided to try on some outfits. Tyler and I split up and looked around the store for the most atrocious outfit we could find for each other to try on. After searching for about 5 minutes I found a hideous lime green suit with yellow polka dots that had small sequins poorly stitched onto the outside of the dots.
I walked back to the fitting rooms with the suit behind my back trying to hide the smirk that was about to form on my face when I saw Tyler standing there checking himself out in the mirror, completely oblivious to my presence. I started laughing at how much of a dork he is but as soon as he saw me and realized I had been watching him his face turned a dark shade of red.
"Awww is little Tilly blushing?" I cooed in a teasing voice, which earned me no response other than an eye roll.
He threw his outfit at me and I saw that it was an orange jacket with cheetah print sleeves and feathers paired with neon blue drop crotch pants. This was going to be interesting. I handed him the outfit I chose and we quickly went into the dressing rooms to try on our horrendous outfits. I stared at myself in the mirror and I actually gagged when I saw how ridiculous I looked, Tyler really out did himself with this outfit choice.
"You ready?" I called out to Tyler tentatively, I wasn't sure if I wanted him to see how ridiculous I looked but I kept on telling myself that he would look like a leprechaun in his outfit so I had nothing to worry about.
"On the count of 3 we're both going to come out. 1, 2, 3." As soon as he said three I reluctantly turned the knob on the door and made my way out of the dressing room. As both of our door opened and we finally saw what we looked like we instantly started laughing like maniacs. Tyler's cackle filled the dressing room and I was laughing so hard no sound was coming out and I just looked like a hyena.
"We look disgusting." Tyler said in between his laughs and I was laughing so hard I couldn't even find the strength to respond so instead I just nodded my head.
"You look like a leprechaun." I panted out between heavy breaths as my laughter stopped but then immediately started again as I looked at him.
"At least leprechauns are cute, you just look like a color blind animal fur obsessed old man." He said and that made me laugh even harder. By the time we finally calmed down I was leaning against the wall for support and Tyler was practically rolling around on the floor.
"I have an idea Tilly." I spoke up suddenly.
"And what's that Troye Boy?" He asked as he wiped a tear from his eye and finally made it to his feet.
"Let's buy these and walk around in them and just see other people's reactions." I said and Tyler's eyes lit up at my suggestion. Within minutes we were tearing off the clothes and running to the cashier. After paying almost $100 each for the clothes that should be worth no more than 46 cents we went back into the dressing room and put the clothes on for real. We put our normal clothes in the bags they gave us to hold our new clothes and after we changed for the second time we were finally ready to start our Christmas shopping adventure.
We traveled from store to store, filling our arms with bags full of gifts for everyone and at each stop about 7 people stopped to stare at us. I wish I had my camera to film them because the expressions some of these people pulled when they saw us were too much to handle. What made it funnier was the fact that they thought we were seriously dressing that way because we wanted to.
After about 2 hours of shopping we finally decided that our mall trip was an absolute success. On our way out of the mall I saw a group of kids lined up around a large red sleigh and as we walked past it I saw they were lined up to get their picture taken with Santa.
Without warning him I quickly grabbed Tyler's hand and pulled him in that direction.
"Troye what are we doing?" Tyler asked skeptically.
"I've never seen Santa before and I want a picture." I said like it was the most casual thing in the world. Here I am, a 19 year old man waiting behind an army of 7 year olds to get his picture taken with Santa Claus.
Tyler just smiled at me and instead of the sassy reply I was expecting he asked if he could get a picture too. I just hugged him, not sure if he was doing it just because he knew how excited I was about Christmas or because he just wanted an excuse to take a picture but either way he was still the sweetest boyfriend I could have ever asked for.
After waiting for about 20 minutes and standing through 3 temper tantrums it was finally our turn and as Tyler and I both took a seat on Santa's lap I could feel the judgmental stares and whispers all around but I didn't even care, because I was happy and with the love of my life and nothing else mattered to me.
"Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas! What do you boys want for Christmas this year?" Santa asked in a jolly voice and I found myself squealing with excitement.
"Well I already have everything I could ever want." Tyler said as he looked at me with a stupid smile on his face.
I started blushing so hard I couldn't form any words and even as the man took Tyler and I's picture with Santa I still couldn't fight the butterflies that were going crazy in my stomach. I never thought I would ever love someone as much as I love Tyler, but now that I do I couldn't picture life any other way.
