Chapter Ten

(time passes and Scarlet walks through the door and goes straight to her room)(the song "All I Want" by Kodaline starts to play)

Scarlet: (is trying to wash the blood off her face)(there is a knock on her door)

Noah: (outside of the door) Scar.

Scarlet: What Noah.

Noah: Can I come in?

Scarlet: I guess.

Noah: (walks in and looks like he's been crying) I'm sorry.

Scarlet: Can you help me wash my face. (hands Noah a wet towel)

Noah: (takes it and scrubs off the dried blood)

(it's silent for a while)

Noah: (puts the towel down) I was so scared that he was going to kill you.

Scarlet: I know. (she bites her thumb in anxiety. She doesn't know how to have this conversation with Noah)

Noah: The thought of him hurting you just sent me into a murderous state, hell, I still want to beat that bastard into a bloody pulp. But I won't, (pauses and looks at her) because you asked me not to.

Scarlet: (looks up at him and hugs him)(instantly her hugs back. The hug is warm with a hint of relief) Noah. Can we have an honest conversation?

Noah: Of course. (worry is filled in his face)

Scarlet: (sits down and he sits next to her) As a kid you remember Mom and your Dad getting a divorce?

Noah: Yeah.

Scarlet: You didn't blame her for the divorce, you never did. And you were never angry with her-

Noah: That's because she's my mom, our mom.

Scarlet: I remember my Mom meeting Daniel, and all of the trips and memories I had with them. And I remember the good side of Daniel, and maybe that's why I feel this way-

Noah: What do you mean? Feel what?

Scarlet: The thought of you killing him, him dying, I couldn't deal with the thought of it. Maybe I deserved his abuse. And that's why he was so angry with me (starts to tear up) (nods) I deserved it.

Noah: (looks absolutely defeated to see his sister like this)

Scarlet: (sobs) I miss her so much. (puts her hands over her face and puts her elbows into her knees)(Noah pulls her closer into him)

Noah: (tears are down his face) I miss her too. I miss her everyday.

Scarlet: I know that he hurt me and abused me Noah, but Daniel is still my father. (her voice breaks)

Noah: Hey, kiddo, look at me. (grabs her hands) You never deserved to grow up the way you did. No one should ever have to deal with that. You would make mom so proud of the person you are today.

Scarlet: (Noah pulls her on his shoulder and she is sobbing)

Noah: (strokes her hair) You look so much like her, you remind me of her everyday Scarlet Hope.

Scarlet: I love you so much Noah.

Noah: I love you more than words can explain. (they stay like that for a while. Scarlet leaning on his shoulder, and him rubbing her shoulder in a comforting gesture)
