Sophie's eyes stared back at her Father, doe-eyed and round as she was set aback further into the room. She could feel His eyes on her as she tried to process the information swimming endlessly around in her mind; a mixture of befuddlement and denial. Her world was suddenly shaken with a whirlwind of fear and anxiety; questions flooded her mind without mercy, but one stood out most of all. How was she going to explain this to Sam and Dean? To Castiel. "How is this possible?" She uttered, sinking down into the cushion of the arm chair. She met eyes with her Father, pleading. "I'm an angel! I can't bare children!"
"You already know you're different than your brothers and sisters, Sophie," He remarked. "You are an angel, but I also created you to be human. Your fall was no coincidence and, though I did it to protect you, it was also to humanize you. All your life you've been prepared for this moment.
"I created you, not only to be the guardian of Heaven, but also the decider in the fate of the world itself. A path was set for you, and at the end of this path were choices- all in which lead you to the most important one. The life festering in your womb is the world's fate."
"Why wasn't a told?" Sophie stood back to her feet, pressing her fingers into her chest- tears swelling up in her eyes. "Why weren't you there to guide me? If I would have known, I could have been more careful; I could have been sure to chose the right fate for this world!
"More importantly, why did you leave this sort of endeavor upon me? All of my existence I never thought more of myself than a lost cause- an unworthy angel, and now this? This responsibility keeps growing with no explanation as to why or how. No one has ever explained to me my purpose until now, and you're telling me I've already chosen the worlds fate based on the life growing inside of me. How is that fair, Father?"
"I didn't expect you to understand, Sophie. However, If I had told you which would lead to the world's everlasting salvation or damnation, you're choice wouldn't have been by your own free will. You could have very well made no decision at all."
"So, which is it then? Who's child do I bare?"
His features graced her with a small smile and he cocked his head to one side. His expression was a mixture of gentle understanding, making her think that the answer was more than obvious. "You should know both Castiel and Dean's life force fought desperately for a place, but in the end, it was the Mark of Cain that settled it."
Sophie's stomach dropped and her eyes grew rounder.
"You will birth a new breed of Nephilim; Nephilim bred with the blood of Heaven's strongest angel, and demon fueled by the violence that spawned Cain himself... and they will bring damnation to the world."
"Th-they?"
"You are going to bare twins, Sophie."
Sophie swallowed, slowly bringing her hand over her stomach. A tear rolled down her cheek as she shuddered.
"Sophie," God cooed, taking a step closer to her. "Do not be afraid. You are persistent, gifted, and full of unconditional love. You will have to raise them, but there is nothing a mother's love cannot change."
Sophie's eyes flickered to His, observing the wink he gave her. She searched his features, as if he was hinting some sort of answer. Could she really still change the fate of the world? Is that what he was truly implying?
By that time, the Impala had come roaring back and her Father left. She was not to speak a word to the Winchesters about her meeting and that was when she realized her Father had taken the form of Carver Edlund, or Chuck as he is known to them. It all made sense to her... the writer of the Supernatural books, the detail in their words... It was Him all along.
