Shadow was the first one to find his speech again.

"You're...you're saying that the real prince – I mean, the real princes...?"

"Yeah." Sonic answered Shadow's wide-eyed stare with a grimace. "For some reason they didn't switch places with us this time when we did that Chaos Control. They're still in Tails' lab."

"I need to see this with my own eyes," Shadow muttered, promptly striding past them and down the stairs. All of them simply looked at each other a bit at a loss for words until...

"Gah!"

There was the distinctive sound of a door slamming shut again.

"Why are they still here?!"

"Told ya." Sonic gave a helpless shrug as the black hedgehog ascended the stairs again, looking slightly spooked. "Sorry. We have no idea, either."

"Uh..." Tails piped up at this point, looking a bit nervous as he fiddled with his namesakes, not quite looking at each of them. "Actually...I think it might have had something to do with the fact that we locked them up in a Chaos-energy-proof container, when the Chaos fields of our dimension aligned themselves to exchange your forms, they might not have been included in the switch this time because they were outside of it-"

"A...chaos-proof container..." Shadow repeated, before his eyes narrowed suspiciously. "And why, pray tell, would you just happen to have a unit on hand that would appear to have been specifically made to restrain me?"

"Ah..." Tails began to laugh a bit nervously, "Ahaha, well, you see..."

A light punch landing on Shadow's arm interrupted the one-sided stare down between the glaring hedgehog and the squirming kit, Sonic smoothly inserting himself between the two.

"C'mon, Shads, enough with the grumpy. You know you've lost it before. My li'l bro is just the cautious type." Sonic briefly ran a hand through the head fur of the kit.

Shadow's expression changed from threatening to a flat stare in a moment.

"Yeah, well, that 'precaution' has just landed us in a fine predicament."

"Hm. I actually don't see what the big deal is," Rouge pursed her lips, apparently a bit disappointed that no one else seemed to want to talk about the hedgehogs' new relationship status yet, but it seemed like she could also see that these were matters that needed to be discussed first. "I mean," she waved a hand, "It's just dimension travel, right? We've managed it before. Now that we know what we're dealing with, the world isn't ending any more and everyone is back, I'm sure Tails can figure something out. All you gotta do," she turned to Sonic and Shadow, "is go in there, explain everything and then we can send them home as soon as the whiz kid has wired something up. They should at least listen to you, right?" She looked at them doubtfully. "Just tell them everything is fine and will go back to normal when they're home."

There was a bit of a pause.

Shadow shot Sonic a rare awkward glance. Simultaneously, a guilty expression passed over Sonic's face and then set up camp there.

Finally, the black hedgehog coughed a little.

"Ah. Yes. Actually, about that."

The hero of Mobius gave a bit of a fake laugh, looking at their puzzled friends. "You know, this is actually pretty funny, but, see, when we ended up in their world, really a lot of things happened..."
