Chapter 14: The Hunter and the Hunted

"Why isn't there any Vermites around?" Evan thought, weirded out for the sudden disappearance, and getting anxious that he will follow Ezekiel for a whole day. He looked and looked around the bushes, till he found one on the right, slithering on a nearby tree. He summoned his bow and aimed at it.

"Bullsey....." He sensed a dagger flung at him and barely dodged to the right, and saw the dagger inches apart from where he was a second ago. He succeeded in dodging, but not without getting a wound on his left cheek.

"D***, he found us" One of the guys in the white tuxedo said, cursing to himself. Evan continued running towards the trees for cover. Meanwhile, the other people who were chasing him threw daggers at him as well. If it weren't for the trees blocking him, he would've already ended up dead or unable to move because of the wounds.

He jumped up to his left and they followed, but he was gone.

"SEARCH FOR HIM!" One of the guys said, for he presumed to be the leader of the group. He waited for them to be gone while he is hiding at a nearby bush. When he knew they were gone, he scanned his surroundings and saw one of the daggers stuck at a tree. He sat again, resting after running at full speed. He caught his breathe before he moved.

"If it wasn't for my Shadow Walk, I wouldn't be here alive" He said to himself, now thinking of a plan on how to eradicate them and on how he'll save Ezekiel.

"Hold on, bud" He stood up and wiped any dirt that got on his clothes. "I'm coming once I deal with the dirt around...."

"You really think our leader won't be that cautious?" Someone said from behind him, a dagger pointed from his back. "Now, let's go meet them silently now...." He was trying to say before getting beheaded by a spear.

"Really, you shouldn't let your guard down after you've got the advantage" Evan said, his eyes narrowing down to a hunter's, as he sense the location of the people who were hunting him. He summoned his dagger to his hand and walked to a tree.

"It won't be against the rules if no one's around, right?" He walked to the tree that has a shadow, and merged with it. "Marco?"

And he was gone.

"Seriously, what happened to all the Vermites around?" Ezekiel complained, after searching for half a hour, he still didn't find one. "At this rate, Evan will win the bet" He looked up to the sky "Knowing that guy, he'll pretty much order me to buy cheese for him" He sighed "Well, that isn't new at all....." He stopped and duck, knowing that he can't fully stop after running with full speed.

A two daggers flung at him on both sides, barely dodging it as if it wasn't for him sensing it, he might've already been hit in the head with a blade. He turned around and saw five people chasing him at max speed.

"Tch, not even letting me rest" He ran again and summoned his sword to his hand. His red Chronos revealed itself on his arm, but it still didn't tick unlike the others.

The ones chasing him threw three daggers to him, and that made him go to a detour to the trees to right. They followed him and one of them who was closest to the tree got beheaded and stumbled down to the ground, blood spewing out. Ezekiel threw the shortsword he summoned to the one who stopped to see what was going on, and ran again to the opposite side. The remaining three followed him, saying nothing to the comrades that they saw die in their eyes, and continued to the chase.
