Chapter two: The Neighbors

I watched the bird fly away, and stood in amazement. Had that really just happened? Had the torture really ended? Everything was happening so quickly. I stood up and felt the cold wind hit my face, making me realize that from now on only the wind could hit me. Nobody and nothing else.

I started walking and found myself on my friend's lawn. I kept walking and knocked on her door. We have known each other since preschool and now knowing each other in middle school is the best thing ever. Although my parents were abusive my whole life, Julia and her sister Sarah were always there for me. We live side by side from each other so it wasn't a long walk.

When Julia opened the door, I ran into her arms, with tears of joy in my eyes. "What’s wrong?" she asked. ‘When I remembered that Julia didn't know anything that had happened. I smiled, wiped the tears out of my eyes, and told her everything. Suddenly my best friend had called the police, AND animal control. What had I just done? The person I thought would understand had just called the cops on the bird that saved my life!

I shot her a mad face and took the phone out of her hands and hung up. "What are you doing? I was taking care of that awful bird!" she exclaimed. I-it saved my life." I muttered, in disbelief that I was saying that an owl had saved my life.

"Your right" she said. Suddenly I heard a soft but stern voice in the background. "I agree!" piped Sarah, who I didn’t even know was in the room. I smiled and knew from now on I would be happy. “Oh My GOD!!! HOW HAVE WE NOT THOUGHT OF THIS???? WE CAN LIVE TOGETHER!” The excitement rushed through me and I couldn’t wait. This was my new life, and it was knocking on the door
