The next morning, Ethan woke up early and in a bit of a daze. For a moment, he was blissfully calm, before he took in his surroundings and replayed the events of the previous day in his head. He threw his head back against the pillow and groaned in frustration, staring at the ceiling. He knew that he and Clary desperately needed to find their mom, but he had no idea where to start looking. He figured that, if anyone, Hodge would be the most likely person to speak to about her past.

There was a knock at the door.

"Come in!" Ethan yelled, covering his face with his arm. He was expecting it to be Clary, and she wasn't the calmest person first thing in the morning. So when Alec walked through the door, he was more than a little surprised.

Alec chuckled as he took in Ethan laying on the bed. "Not a morning person, I see?"

Ethan sat up and grumbled. "You would be cranky too if you woke up at," he checked his phone, which was lay on his bedside table, "5:15 in the morning"

Alec grinned. "I used to be, but I'm used to it now. Duty calls at all hours of the day and night".

Ethan shook his head, grinning. "How stupid of me to assume that demons are polite enough to attack people in normal daytime hours"

Alec laughed heartily. "Your sarcastic humour is refreshing. Jace is sarcastic to the point of hostility and Izzy is just blunt. You add just the right amount of sarcasm to make it funny"

Ethan smiled, grateful for the compliment, then realised there was a reason for Alec to be here. "So... what brings you here?"

Alec looked confused for a moment, seemingly forgetting what he came to tell Ethan. Then, after a short moment, he remembered.

"Oh, yeah! Hodge said he would like to speak with you, if that's all okay. He's in the Library. I can come with you and show you where it is, if you'd like?"

Ethan smiled warmly and got out of bed. "That would be great Alec."

Walking over to the drawers, filled to the brim with clothes, Ethan takes out a dark grey t-shirt and a pair of black ripped jeans. He takes his shirt off and puts the grey one on. Once the t-shirt passes over Ethan's head, he could see Alec staring in his direction, a light blush dusted on his face.

"Alec?" Ethan started.

Alec snapped out of his daze. "Yeah, Ethan?"

Ethan chuckled softly. "I kind of need to get changed. Mind waiting for me outside for a moment?"

Alec's eyes widened. "Oh, yeah, by the Angel. Sorry, Ethan"

And with that, Alec spun on his heel and left the room quickly. Ethan shook his head and started getting ready to meet with Hodge, when one thought quickly entered his mind.

' He looks so cute when he blushes '

When Ethan was ready, he left the room and found Alec leaning against the wall flipping a- what was it called again- stele in his hand. Ethan cleared his throat so not to startle him, and Alec's face lit up.

"You ready?" he said, walking slowly, gesturing for Ethan to walk alongside him.

Ethan caught up to him and nodded. "So... being a Shadowhunter sounds awesome. What will I have to do to become a proper one?"

Alec looked startled. "You... let me get this straight. Your mom got kidnapped," he said, counting on his fingers, " you got attacked by a demon and you are in a strange place with strange people, yet you still want to be one of us?"
