Chapter One: A Drunk Princess
A boredom expression rested against Prince Thomas' face as he observed the ballroom. Kings and Queens from the surrounding kingdoms filled the room, the stench of wealthness suffocating them.
The prince had been dreading this very day, the great ball to find him a princess worthy of being queen. He had to choose a random rich, entitled and spoiled princess worthy of being his partner for the rest of his life.
Prince Thomas would rather die.
His night was filled with greeting princesses that took every chance to throw themselves at him. All he could do was give them a polite smile and move on to the next. He had tried everything to get away from them but it was no use.
"Do you like to dance?" The brunette that clinged onto his arm questioned as she pressed her body against his.
Prince Thomas simply nodded as he glanced around, trying to find a way to escape.
"I'm a very good dancer, if I may say. Would you like to see?" The princess, who's name he had already forgotten, batted her lashes at him in a seductive manner. But to him, it seemed like she was about to have a seizure.
"I'm sure you're lovely but what if I get us new drinks?" The prince didn't give her time to answer as he grabbed their empty glasses of wine and walked away.
A sigh of relief left his lips as he placed the glasses in a random table. Keeping his gaze down, Prince Thomas grabbed a glass of wine from a server before he made his way out of the ballroom and towards the balcony.
The cool breeze of the night against his face made him feel like he was finally able to breath. Prince Thomas took a sip of his wine and allowed the alcohol to relax him.
"I swear this stupid dress is just making me feel like I'm about to collapse from not being able to breathe."
Prince Thomas stopped in his track at the feminine voice. He now realized the figure sitting by the porcelain bench, a glass of wine in their hand as they cursed their dress.
"A princess shouldn't speak in such a vulgar way." Prince Thomas commented as he approached her.
A groan left the unnamed princess. "You sound just like my father."
Prince Thomas watched as the young woman turned her head to look at him. Her big round brown eyes were the first thing that caught his attention. The way they sparkled made him feel strange.
"Ah, if it isn't the special guest of the night, Prince Thomas." The obviously drunk woman raised her glass towards him.
Prince Thomas simply remained quiet as he took a seat beside her.
"My name is Mara by the way."
Prince Thomas gave her a glance as he expected for her to say her title. All the women he met tonight had made their title clear to him. Letting him know that they were possible candidates to become queen.
"Just Mara? No, Princess or anything?" He questioned with a hint of amusement and curiosity.
Mara shook her head as she took another sip of her wine. "Just Mara."
The prince kept her gaze on her. That strange feeling he felt earlier seemed to come back as he observed her. The way she was clearly tispy as she swayed in her spot. For a moment he could see in her eyes the same thing he always wished for.
Freedom.
Turning his gaze from her, Prince Thomas stared at the view ahead of him. The lights of the kingdom illuminated the night, giving them a beautiful sight.
"Tom." He spoke out of nowhere.
"Pardon?"
Prince Thomas gave her a side glance. "My name is Tom. Just Tom".
Mara felt her lips twitch as a smile spread across her lips. Bringing up the glass of wine, she blinked her glass against him before she jugged the rest of her drink.
Prince Thomas mimicked her as he drank his glass of wine. He remained quiet as he stared at the view of the kingdom. A kingdom that soon would be under his care.
Soon he would be King Thomas of Genevere.
"I don't want to be King." He confessed.
Mara didn't move her gaze from the night sky. "Then don't be".
Prince Thomas shook his head slightly, "It's not that easy. I can't just decide to not be king, it's my duty, I can't escape it."
"Well, then it seems like you're fucked Prince Thomas Holland of Genevere." Mara stated, a giggle escaping her lips as she took a sip of her glass but sighed as she realized it was empty.
Without giving another word, she stood from the bench, swaying slightly before she gained her balance. Turning to face Prince Thomas, she picked up her dress and gave him a dramatic courtesy.
The prince found amusement in her actions as he chuckled. He simply watched as she gave him a drunk smile and tipped her head slightly towards him.
"It has been an honor spending the rest of this awful night with you." Mara raised her head to stare at him, a playful smile spread across her lips, "But it is time I part to get more of this delicious liquid".
Mara held up her empty glass.
"Shouldn't a princess know her limits to alcohol beverages?" Prince Thomas questioned as he stood up.
"Yeah well for one, I'm no princess. And for second, I don't give one fuck about my limits to alcohol".
The prince simply shook his head as he reached for the glass in her hand. He ignored the pout she gave him as he placed it on the bench before he turned his focus to her. Giving her a small bow, he stretched out his hand towards her, "Before this night ends, would you do me the honor of accepting a dance?".
Mara stared at him with a loopside smile, she softly giggled before she slammed her hand against his, "Oh, fuck it."
