Chapter Twelve: Trust Her

"So that's it, you just give away the one important thing and expect us not to speak about it?" Kai questioned making Mara roll her eyes.

He hadn't stopped arguing since the moment they left the fairy kingdom. Kai had insisted on questioning why Mara was stupid enough to give the prince's heart away. Mara had remained quiet during their leave, she didn't want the fairy queen to find out the truth.

For if Sol had found out that Mara had given her the heart of a bird instead of prince's heart, Mara would be dead. She knew that betraying Sol would become a mistake that she would come to regret.

"Will you please say something?", Kai demeaned, "Mara I am speaking to you!".

Mara stopped in her steps as she felt her muscles tense at the tone of his voice. She hated the way he spoke to her, it reminded her of the way her father would yell when she got a spell wrong.

Taking a deep breath to calm herself down she ignored him and kept on walking down the forest.

"Mara for fuck sake!"

"Enough." Mara yelled as she turned to look at Kai. Black pitched eyes met his blue ones as she clenched her hand beside her. Kai felt a force stop him as he gave her a wide eyed look. The magic he felt was nothing like the one she had used to protect their minds

This magic felt wrong, evil.

Prince Thomas stopped in his steps to look at an angered Mara. A terrifying chill ran down his spine as he looked into her black eyes, the feeling of magic made his stomach turn in disgust.

"Why can't you just stay quiet for one second Kai? Not everything you ask will be questioned", Mara felt her heart beat rapidly as her anger grew. Taking another breath she unclenched her hand and took a step back, "You really need to trust me more Kai."

Mara reached for the inside of her shirt and pulled out a small vial that glowed blue. A dry chuckle left her lips as she showed it to him, "Do you believe I am stupid enough to give her the prince's heart? Oh come on Kai, you should know better."

Kai remained quiet as he looked at the vial in her hand. Quilt filled his heart for a moment but it was quickly gone as Mara rolled her at him. Clearing his throat, he adverted his gaze and began to walk.

After walking for hours, Mara had decided it was time for them to rest. The magic she had used earlier to find them had drained, which had worried her as small magic never was a big toll on her.

Within seconds of setting up her area, Mara laid down and instantly fell asleep.

Kai glanced over to a sleeping Mara. There was a pained expression as the middle of her forehead furrowed. He had known it was wrong to not have trusted that she would get them out and not risk the life of the prince.

But there was something off about Mara and his instincts told him not to trust her

Kai glanced back to the prince and cleared his throat, "Prince Thomas, why exactly do we need her? I mean, we can find the book ourselves and find someone else to save you."

The prince gave his royal guard a frown. He knew that he didn't trust Mara the way he did but he had hoped that he was more open towards her.

But the prince was wrong.

"Kai I appreciate your worry for me and the duty you have as my guard but I trust her," Prince Thomas glanced over to give Mara a soft smile as she slept peacefully, "She might have stolen my heart but Kai, I trust her with my life."

Prince Thomas looked back to Kai who was staring at Mara with a strange expression, "You are aware that once this is over, you and her will never be a thing?".

A tired sigh left his lips as he looked down the ground. He was very aware that Mara and him could never be together, especially with Mara being a witch and him being the heir to a throne.

Prince Thomas couldn't be with Mara, even if that's the one thing he wanted the most.

authors note: is that a double update? Yes, yes it is. So sorry for being so absent these past days but I've been dealing with stuff. I hope to soon find some time to atleast write a couple of chapters !
