Epilogue: A Kings Heart

10 years later...

"Dad!", the soft voice of a child calling for the king made him turn around with a smile on his face.

"We have spoken about this, running around the halls is inappropriate for a princess" King Thomas said as he picked up his younger daughter.

"Oh but dad, walking is for boring people!" Mara, the five year old princess, groaned as she rested her head on her fathers shoulder.

King Thomas simply chuckled at his younger daughter, Mara, named after the witch that had stolen his heart.

"Shouldn't you be with your mother?", King Thomas glanced down to his daughter to see her making a face, "I believed today was your first training session."

Mara, the sassy five year old, rolled her eyes in a exaggerating manner, "Mom kept yelling at Benny and if I'm honest, she scares me."

King Thomas smiled at the way his daughter shuddered in fear. Queen Jane, his wife, had always been slightly strict when it came to their children but she was loving and cared for them.

Putting down Mara, he gave her head a pat before he motioned for her to go, "Go on now before your mother yells at me for holding you hostage."

Mara grabbed her fathers suit, making him lean down to her height and whispered in his ear, "Will you say hello for me dad? Oh pretty please, will you tell the witch I said hello?".

King Thomas gave her a nod and watched as she squealed happily before she left running. Shaking his head, a smile spread on his lips as he turned his gaze back to the view of the kingdom.

Genevere. A kingdom that had changed so much with time. A place that became a safe haven for both humans and magical creatures. He had made a peace treaty with the witches in honor of Mara, the witch who had sacrificed herself for him.

After Mara's death, King Thomas had dugged himself into a life of grief and sadness. He had spent many nights after their return, stuck in his bedroom, drowning in the memories of Mara. He had relieved her death every time he closed his eyes.

Months after months of being locked in his bedroom, Kai had grown desperate and dragged him out. Everyday, Kai would take the young prince for walks, allowing himself to get fresh air and release the pain he felt.

Until one day, Mara's death didn't hurt as much.

Time after, the prince had been crowned King Of Genevere.

Within months into ruling, King Thomas had made many changes. Allowing the people in his kingdom deciding along his side how he should rule. King Thomas became the kind, caring king Mara knew he would become.

Every year, on the anniversary of Mara's death, King Thomas would sit outside the balcony where he had first met her. Relieving in the memories of his past, allowing himself to get lost in her once more.

A smile spread on his lips as the cool breeze around him send a chill down his spine. There were tears in his eyes as he placed his hand over his heart, "It's still yours".

King Thomas closed his eyes as a tear rolled down his cheeks, allowing himself to get lost in the feeling of the memories of the witch who once stole his heart. Memories of a sassy, out going witch who had managed to change his life completely.

A witch that had saved his life.

Ten years later, and King Thomas felt the same pain he had felt that night she had died in his arms.

"It's okay", Mara whispered, "You can let go."

King Thomas clenched his fist over his heart, the sweet sound of her voice filled his ears as he opened his eyes. A broken sob left his lips as he looked off into the distance, hoping he could see her one more time.

Brushing off a tear that rolled down his cheek, King Thomas took a deep breath as he calmed himself. A soft smile rested on his lips as he looked at the view of his kingdom.

Mara would be proud, he thought.

the end.
