This is a poem that I wrote after giving the Pre-Board exam for English. If you want to know what Pre- Boards and the exam pattern are, then read the next paragraphs, or else, jump right into the poem.

Basically, in India, a national level written exam for the students of class 10th and 12th are conducted for various subjects. It is important to clear this exam to be considered 'Pass' from school.

The official name for it is AISSCE or All India Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, commonly called, the 'board examination'. So, schools prepare the students by taking practice tests called 'Pre-boards'.

The test duration is 3 hours and the maximum marks for all the questions together is 80.

So, here is what happened in one such pre-board exam for English.

There stood the warrior

A thin, blue sword in hand

And there stood the dragon

In the kingdom of printed land

She wanted only the eighty scales

That the dragon so very cherished

Alas! One-eighth of a day it lasted

Thereafter, it just perished

The warrior fought on, brave and bold

Displaying immense skill

Little did she know of the peril

That was lurking still

The heavens decided to test her

And hence gave a silent blow

Neither her blood nor her sweat

Was it that began yearning to flow

Nature's call, as some call it

Willed her to leave the battleground

Blinded by Caesarian pride

She refused to go and only frowned

The heavens pushed on

And now that the time was nigh

When the dragon disappeared

She relented with a sigh

The battle was over

Only some scales could she clinch

Caught in foolish bravery

Twelve of them she failed to pinch

But now the warrior analysed

And realised what to do

Stood up again to train well

For the final rendezvous.
