I sat in my holding cell looking up at the ceiling. Grey walls. Grey ceiling. There weren't really anything but a small bed in the corner of the small room. My eyes drifted to the small window at the center of the ceiling. Earth could be seen from here. Oh how I wish I was there right now. Breathing in the fresh air. Twirling through a field of grass, daisies, whatever. Swimming in the lakes, rivers. But no. I'm stuck on this stupid spaceship, the ark, that we've called home for nearly a hundred years. All because of a nuclear apocalypse that occurred a hundred years back, leaving the earth filled with radiation killing all of mankind... Well, maybe not all of mankind because I'm here. Me and about 3000 other people living on this ark. Living on the ark was not as easy as it seems, considering that every "crime" is punishable by death, or being put here, in the skybox until you're 18, and they're ready to review you to decide if you should be floated or not. Floated. Also known as death itself. It basically just sucks you out into the Galaxy, killing you instantly. What a way to die right? Well. That's what's going to happen to me. In less than a few days, I turn 18, and I doubt they'll let me free considering I shot a guard landing me in this place in the first place.

The door creaked open snapping me out of my thoughts. My head turned to the door. In walked two guards. I guess they're here to execute me early.

"Prisoner 216. Face the wall." One said in a stern voice. I stood up and faced the wall. No point in arguing with them because you'll just get a beating. Out of the corner of my eye I saw the other take out a metal bracelet.

"What is that?" I asked glancing at it warily.

"Quiet. Hold out your right arm." He barked. I rolled my eyes and held out my right arm. He snapped the bracelet on, and I felt needles pricking my skin. Shit. What was this and what did I get myself into. The guard took my arm and led me outside. I looked around in panic as I saw "prisoners" being led out of their cells and to an unknown place. Everyone seemed to be resisting and ended up being tranquilized. I walked the way the prisoner led me not caring if they're leading me to my death or not, there was no one left that I love on this ark, so death would just be reuniting me with them. They led me to a drop ship and began to push me down on a seat.

"Sit. And don't move." He said, then left. I looked around, the drop ship seemed like it could fill a hundred people, maybe more.

"Hey" someone whispered next to me. I turned quickly about to knock them out, but realized that it was just a girl and lowered my fist. The brunette girl let out a laugh.

"Why would you do that." I breathed laughing, while clutching my chest.

"I'm Octavia. " she said holding out her hand for me to shake.

"Reina" I smiled taking her hand, shaking it, before releasing it.

"So do you have any idea where they're sending us?" She asked.

"No, but who cares. As long as I'm away from all of them, I'm good. More that good." I replied smirking slightly.

"Amen to that." She laughed as more "prisoners" start to pile in and take their seats. When everyone was in, and all buckled up, the doors begun to shut, and next thing you knew it. We were falling. I heard a shriek come from beside me and a hand grasp mine. Octavia. I laughed at her reaction and glanced at her.

"You okay?" I gigged. She glared playfully and hit my shoulder.

Suddenly the screen showed a video of Chancellor Jaha. Me along with almost everyone on the ship booed.

Prisoners of the Ark, hear me now. You've been given a second chance, and as your Chancellor, it is my hope that you see this as not just a chance for you, but a chance for all of us, indeed for mankind itself. We have no idea what is waiting for you down there. If the odds of survival were better, we would've sent others. Frankly, we're sending you because your crimes have made you expendable.
