A Lot Like Pompeii

Chapter 10: Yes Possible

The day that Derek had been dreading finally showed. As he lied on his bed, Stiles asleep next to him, Derek wished he could rewind the past week. He didn't want to go on.

He slowly got up and walked downstairs where Scott was watching tv.

"Hey how'd you sleep?" Scott asked as he flipped through the channels.

"Not good. I never thought this day would come."

Scott nodded slowly and looked over at Derek. "I know. I know you weren't expecting for this to happen so soon, but he's only going to be three hours down the road. You can still see him everyday."

Derek sighed and grabbed a bowl and started to pour some cereal in it. Even if it was something he was supposed to be prepared for, he wasn't.

"I already lost him once, what if I lose him again?"

Scott shook his head and stood up, "He's not going to forget you again Derek. Even if he can't remember anything you've started over and that's all that matters."

Scott and Derek both turned as they heard Stiles come down the stairs. His brown hair was a mess and he looked like he hadn't slept all night. Derek knew that Stiles was stressed about starting college, but Derek couldn't help but feel sorry for the boy, he was already super stressed about so many things.

"Hey Stiles, sleep well?" Scott asked as he did an up down of the boy.

Stiles glanced over at Scott and Derek before silently dragging his feet into the kitchen without sayng a word. Scott looked over at Derek and Derek shrugged before standing.

"I'll go see what's wrong."

He walked into the kitchen to find Stiles sitting at the counter, his head in his hands as a bowl of cheerios sat on the counter in front of him. Derek sat down next to Stiles and rubbed his back, "Hey..what's wrong?"

Stiles looked up at Derek and Derek swallowed, a lump growing in his throat. Forget the fact that it looked like Stiles hadn't slept in days, his eyes were red from what Derek could only guess was crying, and Derek didn't like that at all.

"Derek..." Stiles said slowly as he looked at the boy. He hated disappointing people, but he couldn't go on for much longer. "We really need to talk."

"What about?" Derek asked quietly.

"I...I don't think I can do this anymore. I don't know who I am, I don't know what i'm doing...and I don't know about us. I know there's something there...but I don't remember it. I'm trying so hard to fix what happened and to go back to the way we were but..I don't feel it anymore."

Derek could feel the lump in his throat grow, he knew that this day was going to come but he still wasn't ready for it.

"Please don't do this to me." Derek said as he felt his voice crack.

Stiles put a sad smile on his face and hugged Derek tightly. Derek hugged him back, knowing that this was the end.

He didn't want it to be the end.

"I'm sorry Derek. I'm really sorry."

Stiles let go and kissed Derek lightly, his eyes squeezed shut and Derek knew he was trying not to cry.

"Stiles..."

"I'm okay." he said wiping his eyes. "I'm okay."

"I love you." Stiles said as he climbed into his car.

"I love you more." Derek said.

Stiles laughed and shook his head as he started his car and started to drive off. "Not possible!"

Derek watched as Stiles drove away. not a tear was shed, because he knew that they were meant to be together. There was no way that they wouldn't meet again.

With his hands in his pockets, Derek walked back towards the house, he could hear music coming from Scott's room and he couldn't help but smile.

This was life. This was love. Life would throw you a hard one and you were just expected to be okay. Love was a lot like pompeii, everything seems perfectly normal and then one day everything changes.

But Scott was okay. Stiles was okay. Derek was okay.

Derek turned and saw the back of Stiles car turn off the street towards his new home, towards college.

"Yes possible." he said before walking in the house and shutting the door behind him.

Ahhhh guys that's it I finished my first ever fanfic! It took FOREVER but it was worth it. I really enjoyed writing this and I want to thank you guys for reading! I seriously thought I would only get like 8 views but you guys are awesome and you never let me down!

Now don't worry, this isn't the end of their story. I'm in the works of a sequel fanfic. This one will have more of the characters from the show. Stiles, Scott, Derek, Lydia, Malia, Aiden, Ethen, Danny, Jackson and Isaac just to name a few. cant wait for you guys to see it!
