I walked for what seemed to be about 15 minutes in the time language of the aliens. Alert and lost in mind at the same time, I proceeded.
As I reached a junction and was about to turn, I saw them.........my people. They were fighting the aliens. And they were losing. I recognized the Reaper. He was the commanding general of the army of the Fjans and my friend.
He must be the one leading the resistance. I have to help them. I neglect the swishing flight of gunfire back and forth and rush toward an injured Fjan.
I flip forward and take aim at an enemy. It takes two shots to eliminate him. Spinning on my left foot immediately after landing, I meet another with a knee to the jaw.
I think I heard a crack but I keep going after landing. My glorious moment of temporary triumph is ended by my being grazed on the arm by a shot from one of the enemies.
I duck behind some fallen cargo for protection. Apparently, I'm right beside the wounded comrade I was coming to.
I speak to him with my eyes and it seems he understood perfectly because he nods. I attend to his injury. I've gotta say it's nasty and deep. I rip my "prison" garments and bind him with care and precision from experience.
He was wounded on his right leg. I signal to him that we have to leave here because it not safe and once again he nods in acceptance. He seems to be an order follower. Not that I could say the same about myself.
I carry him by his left arm around my neck and my right arm at his waist for support. Using my fingers to do a countdown, we bolt as fast as we can towards the stronghold of defense held by the Fjans.
I'd say we were lucky to barely make it to the stronghold alive.
But the captain must have noticed us and covered us from the moment we made our terribly slow paced dash. He took down every assailant each with single shots.
It still amazes how he manages to shoot like that. Even though I have the eye of the eoer I can't even shoot as such. I guess that explains why he is the Reaper. With a weapon and ammo, he is unstoppable.
"Oraion, General Fokurai Samnat." That's the first thing I say after I pick a weapon and position myself beside the General, my old friend. "Fukorai noo aska lee ma kaeria......cooratu mesdonier??" He speaks to me in Fjanai only during battles. He asks me to tell him whether there were any other hostages. I reply in Fjanai myself as I tell him about her being here and that I did not know if there were others.
With hand signals, the General tells a squad of four to break away and find the hostages.
"Let me go with them........please.....let me." I blurt out in desperate rage and agony as I think of the things they might have done to her.
After waiting for what seemed an eternity the General agreed.
I make an instant salute as we draw out towards our destination. We had hardly taken any step when an explosion blew open a huge hole in the wall some feet near us.
We recover quickly and ready ourselves for the worst as we direct our attention towards the hole and the debris laying beneath it.
I sigh with relief as I realize it was just more Fjans, apparently resistance as well. Back up, I presume, or escape routers. My small squad now proceeds with our orders as we keep moving toward the hostage area.
I follow them panting and heavily breathing as we run, turning and stopping, opening doors and gunning down enemies who show up, I'm terribly exhausted.
We reach our destination but we did not meet what we expected.
