Zoe is forced to move out to Washington with her brother after their father gets into financial trouble. There she meets a local named Kurt who gives her a lesson about what it means to live.
"Get up Zoe it's almost 2pm! You've been sleeping all fucking day!" I could hear Theo's loud obnoxious voice echo through the house.
I only rolled over and continued to sleep Hoping he would leave me alone.
The next thing I know, I'm soaking wet and Theo is standing above me with an empty water bottle and a huge grin on his face. "Good morning sunshine!" He said cheerfully.
Annoyed I got up and changed into warmer clothes then what I wore yesterday. When I finally came out the house, Theo was in the truck waiting for me.
"Damn do you always sleep that late?" He questioned.
"Do you always throw water on innocent people or is that something you just started?"
He laughed at my joke and slyly said "Just started."
About 15 minutes later we were in town. He went over all the shops and places to eat and I just nodded pretending to be listening.
We finally stopped at a grocery store and he let me out to go explore the town as he got stuff for the house.
At first I kinda just stood their not knowing where to go, but out of the corner of my eye I saw the same guy from the gas station. He was alone and leaning against a fence smoking a cigarette.
A bit of joy went through me as I saw him so I walked over to him.

"Hi Kurt!" I said his name remembering that's what my bother told me his name was.
He immediately looked up at me squinting. "How did you find out my name?"
"Oh I just asked my brother. He said you two used to be friends. I'm his little sister Zoe." I introduced myself to him.
"Zoe you say?" He put out his cigarette and begin walking away. "Thought your brother told you not to come around me. Zoe."
I walked behind him trying to keep up. "I mean he did but he's not here right now. I thought maybe we could talk and you could explain why he hates you so much."
Kurt grinned from ear to ear at that statement as we crossed the street. "I shouldn't have to explain anything to you. 'kid sister'." He mocked my brothers phrase and I got pissed.
"Look man! I'm just trying to make friends. If you don't want me around just say so! But don't ever call me 'kid sister' ever again!" He had me raising my voice so much we started a small scene on the sidewalk.
Kurt was taken back by that. Under his breath he muttered "there's your brother."
"What?" I asked him.
"Same temper as your brother, Just like the bastard." He rolled his eyes at the few people that were looking at us and grabbed my arm pulling me into an Alley.
"So you said you wanted to make friends?"
I gave him an odd look and slowly said "Yeah."
"Ditch your overprotective brother and come with me."
I wanted to jump at the opportunity of getting away from my brother but I know he would of had a heart attack if he came out the store and I wasn't there. I tried to come up with an excuse to let Kurt down easily.
"I can't, I would have to change clothes. I'm literally in pajamas." I laughed awkwardly trying to avoid eye contact.
He flashed me a shy grim and calmly said "Come as you are."
I weighed my options and thought what could happen. Then I followed Kurt.
