Zoe is forced to move out to Washington with her brother after their father gets into financial trouble. There she meets a local named Kurt who gives her a lesson about what it means to live.
We walked for what felt like hours to some bridge. I was starting to panic just thinking about how Theodore was losing his shit.
"You good kiddo?" Kurt questioned as I wasn't very good at hiding the worry in my face.
I tried to lie as best as I could. "It's nothing."
He wasn't an idiot. "Look as soon as I show you this view you can hurry back to your brother. Hell I'll even pretend I kidnapped you." He laughed at his own joke but I wasn't in a laughing mood so I just nodded.
We made it to the top of this infamous bridge and he was right. The view was something.
"How did you find out about this place anyways?" I asked him.
He gave me a distant glance. Taking a moment to look down under the bridge before answering me.
"I live here."
I awkwardly stood there for second. No way was he serious. And he was so blunt about it. "No way! you're fucking with me. You told me at the gas station you weren't homeless!"
He laughed again. "Yep I live under the bridge that doesn't equal homeless."

"It might not equal homelessness but it's real similar!" I argued.
"It's totally fine. It keeps me dry from the rain and away from those vultures you call humans." Kurt took my hand leading me to his little spot.
"See it's not that bad." He showed me his one blanket and a gallon of water he had saved. I had to stop myself from tearing up.
"No Kurt, it's cold tonight. I can't let you freeze under here all night."
He noticed the tears I was holding back. "Woah Zoe I didn't mean to make you upset. I'm sorry for even mentioning this place."
"Don't even apologize it's not you're fault. I cry at every little thing but no way in hell Am I letting you sleep here tonight. You're coming back home with me. I don't care if Theodore catches us." I exclaimed.
"How am I supposed to know he won't shoot me or strangle me with his bare hands once he sees me with you?" He asked.
"Easy I'll go to the front and take my lecture while you go behind and sneak into my room. You'll sleep there tonight."
