The sun rose at the princessy palace, morning reflecting on bright moon lake. It was the day after, and Catra was still solely confined to her room.
knock, knock.
Adora let herself in with a tray of food.
"I won't join the rebellion, if that's what you're here for"
"No, no, I just wanted to talk? Like normal people?"
Normal people. It was a stark contrast to the last time they talked. She was half existent and willing to give everything away just to see Adora lose. Adora then promptly punched her in the face.
Honestly, Adora was delusional if she thought they were able to fix things between them.
"Look, this may not be any ration bar from the horde..." she sat down beside her "but it's better! It's called salmon! It's a type of fish! Figured you'd like it."
Awkward silence ensued after the metal decorated tray clinked on the floor. Adora felt obligated to fill that silence.
"You know, I feel I have to say it... I'm... sorry."
Catra's ears perked up.
"For what?"
"For, you know, punching you. And saying bad things to you..."
She stared at the blonde dumbfoundedly.
"But... why? Didn't you want me to learn a lesson? Didn't I, according to you, deserve it?"
"Oh, you did deserve it. You needed to hear that, very bad, and I'm hoping it really hit you hard." A pause. "The words, I mean. Not the punch. It still hurts hurting the people I love though. I care for you, Catra. Even if the words I said were the words you deserved to hear, I'm sorry"
Catra tried to process what she was saying.
"So... even though you regret nothing, you still feel sorry? 'Cause doing bad makes you feel bad? You're so idiotic." She scoffed "Whatever. You said what you wanted to say. What's done is done. I don't care, anyway."
Adora sighed, sadness in her eyes. Catra couldn't help but feel a small twinge in her ex friend's disappointment. She stood up and headed to the door, halting at it.
"I'll let you eat your salmon alone now. I really think you'll like it"
The door closed gently. Catra hugged her knees and suspiciously looked at the tray of food. She'd never eaten food outside of ration bars. She inspected the fish closely and took a sniff. It smelled... good. Ignoring the cutlery provided, Catra took a piece with her bare claws. It was moister than she expected, the juices oozing through the spaces between her fingers.
She plopped the chum into her mouth and started to chew. The taste wasn't anything close to anything she ever tasted, and would dull in comparison to everything she would eat at the Horde when she would eventually come back. She was already planning how to break out and return, she just needed to find out how.
Hell, the salmon was really good.
Adora really had Catra pegged. She really did know her. She always cared about her, and she always knew she did. And honestly? She cared about her too. The years growing up together and all the feelings attached couldn't just go away fast after all.
