A few weeks had passed since the night that Izzy had driven Joan home, and a little bit had changed since then
After their conversation in the car, Joan began to work more hours at her job at the local record store. She knew that he was absolutely right when mentioning the fact that she wasn't making enough money to continue to pay her rent in the long run, so she decided to be scheduled for more shifts at her job. She would work every day with weekends as the only exception, open to close.
Izzy absolutely despised this.
Due to her new hours, they couldn't call each other as much as they used to. Their schedules didn't line up anymore, but they still tried their best. Granted, their best only allowed them to get at most two or three calls throughout the week, but there was still an effort being made.
This also meant that she couldn't hang out with the band as a whole as much anymore either. Joan had joined the group with almost everything they did together, so when her absence became more and more frequent the guys had begun to question Izzy about it.
"Don't ask me, it wasn't my decision," he would shrug as if it didn't bother him, but all of the guys could tell that he would do anything for her to quit her job to be able to spend more time with him again.
He would try to come into the store in which she worked when he had some free time to visit her, but she was always busy when he came in. Joan would always send him a sincere apologetic smile before going back to help a customer with whatever they needed, but that wasn't enough for Izzy.
Sure, she was usually available on the weekends and he would see her then, but being able to talk to her in person only two days out of the week wouldn't suffice. He wanted to hang out with her as often as he could. He wanted to hear her and Slash bicker back and forth mindlessly. He wanted to hear her contagious laugh.
She was his best friend, but they didn't have time for each other.
Joan let out a sigh as she slumped down onto her couch after a long shift at work, exhausted from dealing with people all day. Going from working only a handful of days a week to nearly every day wasn't the easiest thing, but a job was a job. If she wanted to keep her own living space, it was necessary.
It sucked not being able to see her friends as much as she used to be able to, but she did what she had to do. Besides, it was Friday, which meant that she would probably be hanging out with them the following day.
After taking a much-needed shower and getting changed into clothes that she was going to wear to bed, Joan made her way into her room. As soon as she was about to close her bedroom door, the phone began to ring. She let out a heavy sigh, not sure who would be calling. It was nearly midnight, and she just wanted to sleep.
Joan reluctantly made her way over to the phone, taking it off of the wall so the incessant ringing would subside. "Hello?" Her voice couldn't hide the weariness and irritation that laced it.
