Chapter 54: Sanda Kaminari

3rd Person P.O.V

Izuku sipped his coffee, checking his watch.

12:32 PM.

Izuku was at a cafe in Tokyo, a place he had only been to once before. He was currently waiting for somebody, who was 30 minutes late.

"Come on, hurry up.", Izuku sighed. "I need to find out the truth."

The day just before, the unfortunate event of Jirou and Kaminari had taken place. Izuku had read Kaminari's mind (which he doesn't like to normally do) to try to find a way to calm Kaminari down, but had found numerous fragmented memories when he read it.

A dog. A smiling man with black hair. A smiling woman with blonde hair. A little boy with blonde and black hair. Those memories were associated with happiness.

Then there was the bald man. The woman with red hair. A room with only a bed and desk. A belt. People with no faces whispering. Those memories were associated with sadness. Desperation. Anger.

He had pieced together the memories and found a phone number that he could tell was important to Kaminari, and he had scheduled an appointment at the cafe with the man who had picked up.

As Izuku waited, he took in his surroundings. There were children playing in a nearby park, with their parents watching and laughing. Couple walking on the street, holding hands and enjoying each others company. People on the rish to get to work.

It was hard for him to believe that just over a month ago, he was despairing in the other dimension with seemingly no hope at all. He remembered vividly every detail of that place, even though he tried to forget. He hadn't tried going back there yet, and frankly, he couldn't see himself ever going back even if he could.

He was disguised with a hat and hood. Aside from his green hair which was mostly hidden, he looked completely normal to the normal person, partly due to the hype around his hero persona dying down a little in the past month. There wasn't much chance anybody would recognize him, as he had gone through efforts to be inconspicuous.

As he took another sip of his coffee, a man with blonde and black hair took a seat from in front of him.

"Hey, are you the one who called me about my brother?", the man asked. "You better hope for your life that you had a good reason."

"Calm down.", Izuku answered. "I'm one of his friends."

"Interesting. I guess I'll trust you for now.", the man said. "The names Sanda Kaminari."

"I'm Kenta Suzuku, your brothers classmate and friend.", Izuku answered. "Yesterday, your brother had a mental breakdown. I used my quirk, which let's me read minds, to try to find a way to calm him down, but I found some... interesting stuff in his memories. I was worried about him, so I contacted the only person in his memories that he felt he could trust. You."

"I see.", Sanda answered. "What happened? What cause his breakdown?"

"I'm not too sure.", Izuku answered. "I know that his limit on his quirk broke, and a classmate was injured. He was beating himself about it pretty badly, so I wanted to find a way to help him."

"Something caused his limit to break?", Sanda asked incredulously. "That shouldn't happen... the only way that would happen is if he was overly shocked about something that was related to his quirk. The only thing I can think about is... his past."

"Can you explain his past for me? I don't want to pry, but I'm just worried about him."

"Of course I can. But be prepared, it'll probably shock you to know the truth about my goofy brother."
