Game Day

Walking into the school, Masterson noticed the tension in the air. Their first game day. People were anxious and excited all at the same time.

Twisting the knob of his classroom, Masterson quickly entered, setting his stuff down. Pulling out his phone, Masterson furrowed his brows and glanced out the window to the hallway.

Why aren't there any kids in the hallway? Was he being pranked or something.

Shoving his phone back into his pocket, Masterson nearly flopped over dead as the door to his classroom swung open.

"Masterson!" Cortez yelled, "What the fuck! Where have you been!"

"W-What?" Masterson jumped back in confusion.

"We have a pep rally in ten minutes! Come on you idiot!" Cortez shouted as he made his way out the door again.

"Fucking christ." Masterson muttered before snatching his keys off the desk and following after Cortez.

The two raced to the gym, weaving in and out of students passing by. Feeling his breath quickening by the second, the pair finally made it to the corridor leading to the gym. Football players all in their jerseys standing outside of the door.

"Here," Cortez spoke tossing Masterson a shirt, "Put this on. You're a varsity coach after all."

Masterson glanced down the shirt, the team's mascot on the back of it as well as COACH written in bold letters.

Hesitating, Masterson quickly unbuttoned his shirt and slipped the navy blue one over himself, tucking his work shirt under his arm.

"What is this about?" Masterson asked, flattening his shirt against his body.

"First football game of the year we gotta celebrate somehow." Cortez smirked. Masterson nodded.

"Please help me in welcoming the Edensburg varsity, junior varsity and freshman football team."

Cheers erupted and light flooded into the corridor as the doors to the gym flew open and the boys rushed inside.

Following behind the boys, Cortez nudged Masterson in the arm, cocking his eyebrows up and down. "You ready for this."

"As ready as I'll ever be." Masterson smirked. His hands began to shake, raking a hand through his hair as he followed next to Cortez.

Walking through the corridor, Masterson's eyes grew sore from the lights and his ears rung from the cheers echoing through the gym.

Once his eyes adjusted, Masterson watched the stands roar and clap. The players stood in the center of the gym, Cortez walking to the front of the line.

"Come on." Cortez mouthed gesturing with his hand to follow. Masterson obliged, his face heating up with every step he took.

Eyes fell on him, watching him as he stood awkwardly in front of the boys. Walking closer to the front, a glimmer caught Masterson's eye. Something that he recognized from a couple day's ago. Pom Poms.

Casting his eyes in front of him, his eyes dilated, enveloping the lights from above. Jada.

Their eyes seemed to lock in unison, their pupils growing larger by the second. His eyes tearing from hers and running over the blue and white uniform that clung to her body.

She had never seen him in such... casual attire. Her eyes bouncing from his exposed arms to the shirt that hugged his torso.

Bringing his eyes back up to her eyes, he watched her smiling up at him kneeling with her pom poms in her lap, her eyes soft and wide.
