The bus jolted to stop as the players bustled in their seats. As the doors popped open, the team hurried down the steps and into the stadium.
The one plus side about being on a football team and living in Texas, every game felt as if you were playing in an NFL stadium.
Masterson waited by the door of the bus as players filed off. "You ready or what?" Cortez asked stepping off of the bus.
"We got this in the bag." Masterson smirked. Cortez nodded following behind the players into the stadium.
Piling into the locker room, Masterson set his bag down on a near by bench, grabbing his clip board and headset.
"Five minutes till start boys let get this shit together." Cortez announced as the two headed to the field.
The band played from the stands as families and students bustled in the stands, the students section packed. "We got quite an audience this year." Cortez mentioned as the two stood on the field.
"You could say that." Masterson added as he scanned the crowd, glancing across the field to the opposing team.
"But hey," Cortez elbowed Masterson, "at least you'll have something to look at."
Masterson furrowed his eyebrows glancing up the cheerleaders a few feet away, specifically Jada.
She had the same uniform on as she did during the assemble, her pink eyelids and lips glistening in the stadium lights as she laughed with Polanski.
Masterson couldn't help but feel his cheeks heat up as Cortez brought his hand down on his shoulder, "I'm gonna go help the sports med kids with their equipment."
Snapping out of his gaze, Masterson nodded, adjusting his hat. Edensburg Football embroidered on the front of it.
Music played from stadium speakers booming throughout the stands. Bringing his clipboard up, Masterson slipped his headset onto his head, adjusting the microphone.
Reading through the plays written down on the board, glancing over the names but his vision was blurred as the feeling of eyes on him distracted him.
Peering up from the clipboard, he watched as Jada approached him slowly, pompoms behind her back.
"So varsity Coach Masterson, are you anxious to the point where you're pretending to read the plays?" Jada asked, her cheeks practically blinding him as they gleamed with the tilt of her head.
Hair brushed behind her ears, Masterson studied her face. Her features he had seen close to a thousand times, he still felt the need to remind himself of her... beauty.
"Somewhat. Are you anxious to the point that you're making conversation with your chemistry teacher?" Masterson asked cocking his head to the side.
"I don't see any chemistry teacher around here, just one of the coaches, sir." Jada mocked as she glanced around.
Sir.
"Well, Ms. McPhearson, how are your nerves holding up then."
"Easy shit, don't know about Weaver though. She's been shitting herself because her ex boyfriend's new girlfriend is one of the cheerleaders on the other team."
Masterson let out a chuckle, "Wow, you're gonna have to keep me in the loop with the drama after this."
"I intend to." Jada nodded as she let out a giggle, her eyes traveling to the other side of the stadium.
"So," Jada turned, "Are you confident, Mr. Masterson."
Peering under the brim of his hat, Masterson cracked a smile gripping his clip board in his hand.
