BT21 stands for "BTS" and "21st century". Each cartoon is based on one specific BTS member. And is designed based on their personality.

All of these adorable characters where created in the late 2017 when BTS joined LINE Friends' Creators initiative which is a project where artists work together with the brand on characters and product ideas (credit metro.co.uk) BTS spent the day together with the company and sketched their character ideas.

RM's character Koya is a tiny blue Koala with a purple nose. (as we all know purple means "love") Namjoon chose his character to be a Koala since he thinks they're adorable.
Jin's character RJ is a white alpaca. He has been drawing alpaca sketches for years before colaboration and was exited to finally bring it to life. The other members often say that Jin even looks like an alpaca especially when he eats.
Suga originally wanted his character to be inspired by his dog Holly but it looked to similar to the others so he tried a few different expressions and ended up sketching his character to be a badass cookie who hates milk.
J-Hopes character Mang is based on himself and is a dancing pony with a heart-shaped nose because his own mouth forms a heart when he laughs. The word "Mang" has many different meanings in korean. It translates to "Pony" "to fail" and is also part of the korean word "hope" (huimang).
Jimins character Chimmy is inspired by BTS and everything they represent. According to Jimin the animal that goes best with the band is a dog since they're very playfull and sweet. His character also reminds him of the way he looked when he first joined BigHit with his cute chubby cheecks.
Taehyungs character Tata is based on a doodle he's been sketching for years. It's a little alien with a heart-shaped head which is able to stretch into wide leghts. Tae wanted his his character to be individual since he loves everything that's different from the rest.
Jungkooks character Cooky is a little bunny who is best friends with Shooky. His character is very selfexplanitory since Jungkook is basically a bunny himself. His character has attitude and works out alot so in his imagination he transforms into a big buscular rabit when he's angry.
