The Before Part

" Wake up Frankie, its time to start getting ready for your first day of high-school!" Franks mother stood at his door way excited as ever by the fact that her one and only son was officially a freshman as of today. Frank groaned and rubbed his eyes violently. It was 5 in the morning, but he couldn't complain, he was gonna need a while to get ready. Crawling out of bed, he grabbed his phone and went off to the bathroom. He had died his hair and trimmed the shaved sides last night to ensure that he'd look especially fresh now, he just had to smell the part.

After showering, he dried n' gelled his hair and put on some eyeliner. His fresh piercing hurt but, he changed it from it's stud prematurely non the less. He just had to look cool! After he was done with everything he needed to do in the bathroom, Frank made his way back to his bed room. He proceeded to put on baggy ripped grey jeans, and a slipknot hoodie he stole from the mall in 7th grade. Finally he topped it off with spiked jewelry, some ear skins, and platform creepers. "I look awesome" he whispered to himself as he marveled at  his full length mirror.

Once fully satisfied with his appearance, Frank stomped down the hallway into the kitchen. Presenting himself proudly to his mother, Frank spread his arms and twirled around " What do you think mom" his voiced filled with excitement. She nodded, smiling bright at her son as she stirred what Frank assumed was pancake batter.

"You look awesome hon, I can't believe you're already so big." She cooed at him lovingly as she turned her attention back to what she was doing. " Is Mikey still coming?" she inquired, making sure she had the most accurate information.

" Yeah he'll be here soon. You're still taking us today right?" He asked nervously. He didn't want to have to get a ride from Mikey's older brother. He kinna scared Frank.

" Of course Frankie, I love taking you on your first day. It makes me so proud to watch you get out of the car every year, one step closer to graduating" Frank's mother was a relatively sentimental women. He loved this about her, he loved everything about her. She was his hero. She loved him and let him be himself.

A knock at the door caused Frank to run across the small trailer and swing open the door. "Micheal!" Frank shouted as he hugged his childhood friend, and pulled him into the home. "You look uh" Frank eyed the boy awkwardly. He looked like an emo nerd with his swooped hair and glasses " you look great buddy" Frank lied. He was concerned with Mikey's fashion and was worried it would effect their combined cool points. But he didn't want to offend.

"Thanks Frank. I tried to look tough like you asked" Mikey said confidently, causing Frank to blush and pull him down the hall.

" Call us when breakfast is done mom!" Frank shouted to his mother , as he hauled Mikey into his bedroom. The door slammed behind him. " Are you crazy Mikey? That was so embarrassing. The key part to being cool is not acknowledging how hard you're trying!" Frank desperately spat.

"Oh okay s-sorry Frank" Mikey apologized meekly. Frank furrowed his brow in sympathy.

"It's okay buddy. We can still fix this.  I think I have some cloths that will fit you" He reassured while walking over to his closet. He grabbed a pair of skinny jeans and an old Green Day shirt, and approached Mikey " Try this out?" he demanded and Mikey complied.  While his friend was changing Frank made sure his backpack was all in order. He had some pins on it, but hadn't been able to go to the record store to buy any patches. And part of him wanted to get them at concerts instead, it made them more authentic.

Finally Mikey re-entered the room, and Frank was pretty impressed with the look. " Now for eyeliner, and I'm gonna do your hair" He said, as he approached the skinny, slightly younger boy. He back combed Mike's choppy bangs and hair sprayed it to stay still over his face. Once his eyes were blacked out and his hair was a rats nest, Frank was finally satisfied " Look in the mirror dude" Frank suggested, and Mikey listened. As he looked into the full length mirror on the back of Franks door, Mikey felt a bit off. " Don't you like it? Bro, you look so damn cool!" Frank boasted.
