~Draco's POV~
"I love you too."
Did I just hear that right? Did Harry Potter just say he loved me? Me. Draco Malfoy? I think I just died of happiness. I barely even register Harry walking away. I just stand there in a daze with the biggest grin on my face. I probably looked stupid, but I don't care.
Harry freaking Potter just said he loved me.
"Draco!" Someone snaps their fingers in front of my face. It's Pansy. "Bloody hell, I've been trying to get your attention for at least five minutes! What are you grinning at? You look like a total idiot." Knew it. I shake my head to clear it and I'm back to reality. I put a sneer on my face.
"Hi Pansy." I say lamely. She quirks an eyebrow.
"What has you so happy? Is it Potter again?" she crosses her arms and stares me down. I don't feel like talking much right now. Besides, she'll find out one way or another. If Pansy wants to know something, she has her means of finding it out.
"I don't see how that's your business." I say smugly. She rolls her eyes at me. I push past her and start towards the Dungeons. I hear footsteps following me. They quickly speed up to match my stride and I find Pansy walking beside me.
"Tell me how your date with Potter went." She says grinning widely. I groan.
"You're not going to leave me alone until I do, aren't you?" I ask looking over at her.
"Yup, so you might as well tell me." She pauses and smirks for a moment. "Unless you want me to corner Potter at breakfast and ask him instead. Give everyone a bit of a morning show." God, this girl was born to be a Slytherin.
"Fine, I'll tell you once we're inside the common room." I say after a moment. We were almost to the entrance, so I suppose she wouldn't mind waiting. She shrugs and we round the final corner.
"Obsidian hearth." Pansy says the password. The bricks move aside quickly to reveal a staircase. We go down the familiar passage and into the common room. The green and silver colors are familiar and comforting. I sit down on one of the couches and Pansy sits across from me and leans forward with her forearms on her knees.
"So what happened between you and lover boy?" She asks smirking. I blush just a bit but recover just as quickly.
"First off, don't call him that. It's weird and no one says 'lover' anymore Pansy." I say. She waves it aside and gestures for me to continue. "Anyways, here's the gist of it. Weasley doesn't know about us, so Harry wouldn't hold my hand in front of him. Hermione noticed and talked to me about it. She told me to tell Harry how I felt. And so I did just that. Once me and Harry were alone, we spent some time together. He took me into Zonko's. It was rather fun. Afterwards, I dragged Harry outside to talk. I told him I didn't want to keep our relationship a secret. He eventually agreed he would tell Ron about us. I was so happy, I kissed him and pulled him into a hug and... I said I loved him. He didn't say it back, but I didn't expect him too. We talked and did coupley things. When the sun started to set, we walked back up to the castle. Just outside of the entrance, where you found me, Harry said I love you too. That's why I was just standing there like that. I was shocked and extremely happy. That's basically all that happened."
I didn't realize I had been staring at my hands and smiling as I retold the events from my day. I look up to see Pansy practically bouncing out of her seat squealing. She has a huge grin on her face and is tapping her foot rapidly, probably to keep from screaming. I think I broke her...
"Um... Are you okay? I-"
"Yes I'm fine! Just give me a moment to process. I think I just had a cuteness overload!!!" Pansy makes an unholy screeching noise and looks like she's about to cry. I watch in confusion. She breaths in and out deeply and then turns to face me again.
"You good...?" I ask. She smiles and nods her head.
"Sorry, it's a fangirl thing. You wouldn't understand." she says simply. "I'm going to go to bed now. I'll see you in the morning!" She quickly springs out of her seat before I have a chance to say anything.
"Goodnight!" I yell after her as she climbs the stairs. I shake my head. I don't think I'll ever understand girls.
~Harry's POV~
"23 Sickles." The portrait swings open and I step inside.
"Harry!" I hear a familiar voice call my name. I scan the room to see Hermione waving me over. I smile and join her and Ron in our usual spot.
"Hi guys." I say shortly. Hermione smiles and Ron nods. I still can't stop thinking about what happened earlier.
"Sooo.... how was it with Draco?" Hermione asks as if reading my mind. She's staring at me and wiggling her eyebrows. I blush a bit and bite my lip.
"What do you mean Mione'? They probably just hung out and all. Guy things you wouldn't understand." Ron turns to me smiling.
"Oh please. I have you two as friends." Hermione says matter-of-factly. "Besides, I think Harry wanted to tell us anyways." I shoot Hermione a look. She avoids her gaze innocently.
"Alright then. What did you wanna tell us Harry?" Ron looks to me curiously. I sigh.
"It's about Draco." Ron waits for me to proceed. When I don't say anything, he tries to help me finish.
"Alright... what about him?" Ron asks a bit slowly. I bite my lip.
Here goes nothing.
"Well.. er- I kinda, sort of... like him. And uh- we're dating." I sputter out. Hermione looks at me supportively. I smile at her and turn my attention back to Ron. Ron just looks at me blankly and blinks twice. He seems like he's trying to process what I just said. He doesn't say anything, doesn't even move. Even Hermione has turned to her boyfriend to see his reaction. After a moment, Ron takes a breath.
"Really harry? Out of all people. That git?" Ron asks, but he's smiling.
"Y-you're not mad?" I look at him stunned.
"Of course not mate! It may take some getting used to, but we've been friends since first year! Do you really think that would end just because of some bloke you fancy?" Ron teases me. I shake my head and stand up to hug him. He meets me halfway and gives me a pat on the back.
"Thanks Ron." I say gratefully.
"Anytime. But I do have something to say." My expression falters, but I nod for him to continue. "Malfoy. Really Harry?" I laugh and color rushes to my cheeks. This makes Hermione giggle and Ron chuckle. Eventually, we're all clutching our stomachs and trying to keep from falling over.
~
After a while, once I had told them what happened with Draco and they told me about their date, we said our goodnights and headed up to bed. The lights are off, so it's dark in the dorm now. Everyone has already fallen asleep. Except me. I sit in my bed and think about everything that happened today. I honestly can't believe it. I smile to myself content.
I roll down my sleeves and look at my arms. Faint lines still cover them from where they had been cut only a couple weeks ago. It didn't feel like it though. It seems as if it had happened in another lifetime. A sad and dark lifetime. Everything seems alright now. It's easier to cope with the loss now that I have Draco in my life. People don't bother me in the halls as much either. I'm finally happy.
No more Dursleys, no more Voldemort.
I have everything I could ever want. Finally, I turn over on my side and close my eyes. I think about all the good that has come as I slip off into a dreamless sleep.
