Aaliyah's POV

We always fight for survival. Sometimes it's different for people. You may fight to be popular because you love the attention, you may fight to be smart because you love that sadisfaction. I fight for many different reasons...

I held my books close, my planner was at the top. I waited by my locker for my friend and boyfriend. The light streamed in the window and glinted off the blue locker. I look down and read the cover of my planner over and over.

2020 Chestnut High School

A hand goes over my mouth and I get lifted up into the air. I fight the urge to shout as I realize it was just Terry. He puts me down and I spin around to glare at him.

"Hey Aaliyah!" He laughs. He gently fixes his short black, side parted hair before putting his hands his his black sweater.

"Aw, look at the two love birds!" I turn around fast, my bangs flying. Mia had her arms crossed as she looked at us. Her dirty blond hair in a messy ponytail.

"Let's just get to class." I say my face getting red. Terry laughs as we all walk. I was in the middle, my favorite place. I could be next to my best friend and my boyfriend. Although this was weird, I felt safer in the middle.

We all walk in, I take my seat in the back of the class. Terry next to me and Mia in front of me. I groan and take out our huge math book. I hated math.

The classroom gets full fast as the bell rings, Mia turns around and gives me a note. I open it slowly reading it.

I'm going to skip class, wanna come?

I write no and give her back the note. She turns to look at me and rolls her eyes then raises her hand. The teacher was talking, but sighs impatiently and calls on Mia.

"Can I go to the bathroom?" She asks and the teacher nods and goes back to teaching. Mia gets up and hurries out the door, she was most likely going to get drunk with some of her other friends. Normally I would enjoy going, but I just didn't want to today.

I stare out the window at a tree, it was birch, my favorite type of tree. Its white and black patterns and the long leafy arms begging the sun for the nutrition it needed. The teacher calls my name, I look up at him and hesitate.

A loud crash is heard, glass flies everywhere and some hit me. I shout out in alarm as some other kids. There was a loud moaning noises, I turn to the window. They were like humans, but their skin was decaying. Broken arms, legs. Blood, bones. Rotten teeth, falling eyes. It all showed. It was like all the games I played. Zombies...

I jump back and look around for Mia, maybe she came back. I fall to the ground hitting my head hard. The real zombies were in the school and one was on me. I scream loudly trying to get it off. I knew from all the video games I played that if I got bitten I would be done for. This wasn't no video game, I only had one chance.

The zombie gets thrown off me as a hand grabs me and pulls me up. It was Terry, and he had the fire hydrant. I look at him my eyes watering, let me say if you're in the middle of a zombie apocalypse there is every right for you to cry.

"We need to find Mia." I say grabbing his arm. My heart was racing, and the teacher was on the floor blood all over him. The other teens were all trying to get out the door, some were already dead.

"We need to go." He says pulling me towards the window. I dig my heels into the ground.

"But Mia!" I shout and look over my shoulder. His eyes held the torn feeling I had too. He shakes his head, and pulls me closer.

"Its not safe, please." I ball my hands into fists as we climb out the window. They were everywhere. What had ever happened for this to break out? Terry turns around fast smashing the fire hydrant on the head of the zombie. Blood was everywhere and my stomach was turning.

I felt like I was about the throw up. Terry grabs my arm and pulls me down the street. I see a horde of zombies from the alley, that is where they must have been before they attacked the school.

I stumble trying to keep up with him. My mind was racing, the streets were full of them. The dead, they walked around the streets as if this was their home. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't.

He pulls me into an empty alley and I fall to my knees. My stomach was turning, my mind was racing, and I couldn't keep running. Terry was pacing when I looked up, he looks at me and I push my bangs from my face. I was sweating, as was he.

His eyes widen, he grabs my arm and pushes me behind him. Stumbling and fall, I sit there for a minute as pain shoots up my knees. They were bleeding. I look over my shoulder as a horde of zombies were coming into the alley.
