Aaliyah’s POV
Okay, I was terrified. Terry just fell unconscious and the random guy was coming to me. I jump back and he grabs my arm. I shout out and use my free hand to grab his arm and dig my nails into him.
He swears and tightens his grip. Trying to pull away he backs me up onto the wall and grabs my neck. He lifts me into the air, my heart races as I frantically kick out and try to dig my nails deeper. The guy lets go of me as his arm bleeds gently, it was only a few minutes of me coughing on the floor before he grabs my arm again.
I glance at the end of the alley seeing one or two zombies, then at Terry who was slowly starting to get up. The guy pushes me onto the wall knocking the breath out of me, then Terry stumbles towards us. My vision was slightly going blurry before I slide to the ground.
Terry had punched the guy and when I looked up he pushes him to the zombies. The guy falls before the zombies crowd around him. The screams were enough, I look away and sit on the ground for a few seconds. Terry grabs my arm and pulls me up gently.
“We have to go before the zombies turn on us.” He says and I just nod. I was scared to think of my family leaving me, but it was that the mostly likely have. It was almost dark and the cold air and noises was enough to send shivers all over.
“We should stop for the night.” I whimper and Terry stops walking. He was looking around, I smile as I see a Dunkin’Donuts. I pull on his sleeve and point to it. “Look.” I whisper.
The place brought back the best memories. This used to be our favorite hang out, if it was just us or with our friends. I look around for zombies before racing over to it, Terry right behind me. I peek in the window, some of the lights were flashing on and off, but it look deserted.
Terry pushes open the door, I had to help because debris blocked it. Once inside Terry pushed the debris back in front of the door and sat at one of the tables. I follow and pick up one of the dirty napkins laughing softly. A light flickered on and off near the counters making me look over there. It reminded me of how hungry I was, but ignoring my stomach I look back at Terry.
“Remember the first time we came here together?” Terry says breaking the silence. I nod and put the napkin down.We sit in almost silence for another minute, I listened to the buzzing of the light as it flickered. “You know, when we get to our houses we should pack some things. Knifes, medicine, food.”
The mention of food made my stomach growl, I nod. “If our family didn’t take it all.” I say my voice cracking. Terry laughs, it was more of a nervous laughter.
“I think I have some bats at my house, and big kitchen knifes.” Terry continues, maybe he was trying to get me to talk?
“My dad might have a gun somewhere in the house.” I finally say and look up at him. He smiles as we sit there in silence again.
“Who knew we would live in a zombie game.” Terry says.
“But its not a game, we could die at any moment.” I say and shiver, I hold my arms and look at the window.
“But I won't let you die.” Terry whispers and puts his hand on my arm. I look at him and smile, I knew I should feel safe, but thats hard when you have to watch your back at all times.
I get up, Terry follows. “We should find a place to sleep.” I say and look around. Terry walks past me as I bite my lip. I follow him as he sits in a corner.
“Its not a warm comfy bed, but it’s far from the windows and door.” He says and I sit next to him. I look around still shivering, from cold and fear. I scoot closer to him and lay my head on his shoulder. I bring my knees close to my chest and he puts his arm around me. I finally close my eyes and go to sleep.
