Grizelda watched the kit day and night. When the kit had first woken up, she thought it would live and come through, but the kit had been too weak to actually get back on her feet again. It didn't wake back up.
The kit wasn't doing well. Grizelda thought it was growing closer and closer to death every day. It shook vigorously in its sleep still and grew awfully skinny as it wouldn't wake up to eat or drink. It was in almost a coma like state.
Toko and Maverick wrestled outside of the den while Ursula sat with her mother, hoping to help the kit as well. "Mom. You can sleep. I'll watch it," Ursula said kindly. Grizelda shook her head. "No. I must care for her. Besides, you're still a cub. You couldn't possibly do such a grown up job!" Grizelda replied.
"Please, Mother! I can do it! You need your sleep!" Ursula argued. She was right. Grizelda hadn't slept in days. Grizelda nodded to her daughter and lumbered over to her best, curled up and fell asleep.
.............................................................
"Mother! Mother! Come quick!" Grizelda woke to her daughter's shouting. She got up and padded up to where her daughter was next to the kit's nest. The unthinkable happened: "The kit is awake!"
