Autumn stood at the edge if the cliff, Grizelda standing behind her. Ursula, Maverick and Toko cheered Autumn on from below.
It was a year later and Autumn was a true grown up Atorina. She was about to fly for the first time. She had been scared all these moons to try again after she nearly died on the cliff when she was only two moons old. But now she wanted to try again.
She looked down below. The three cubs cheered. They wanted to see their adopted sister fly. Autumn was nervous but she was going to do it any way.
"Spread out your wings," Grizelda urged. Autumn did so, then with a deep breath, she jumped.
Autumn tumbled towards the ground. She started flapping her wings, but she kept falling. Fly! Fly! she thought determinedly. You can do it!
She tried flapping again, but it didn't work. She squeezed her eyes shut, waiting to hit the ground and probably due. But nothing happened. She kept waiting. Still nothing.
It was as if time had slowed down. Her fur was no longer being ruffled by wind and she felt as if she was no longer falling. She opened her eyes.
Her wings were outstretched. She was high above the ground. "I'm flying!!" she shouted. She flapped her wings and tried turns, back flips, diving. She was a natural. She could hear the bears cheering below as they watched her fly gracefully in the air.
She had never been so proud. She started diving back towards the ground, ready for a wave of compliments from her bear family.
