Autumn squinted her eyes to see a strange creature staring at her with bright, round eyes. "The kit is awake!" it said excitedly. It looked up at another creature, which looked just like the first creature, only bigger.
"Mother it's awake!" Mother. It was the creature's mother. Autumn tried to sit up, but fell back again, still too weak.
The bigger creature bent over her to have a closer look. "Get the poultice," it ordered to her daughter. The smaller creature ran away.
"Who are you?" Autumn asked. The creature nuzzled her nose into Autumn's said and said, "I am Grizelda. What's your name." Grizelda lifted her head again and looked at her.
"A-Autumn," she stammered. "My name is Autumn."
"Where are your parents?" the creature asked. Autumn remembered the wolves: the snarling, the teeth, claws, blood-and the death.
Tears welled up in Autumn's eyes. Her parents were gone forever. "They're-dead," she said to the creature. "They were killed by wolves."
The creature looked sympathetically at Autumn. It curled up next to her and said, "There there. I'll take care of you now."
