Aubrey's P.O.V.

I can't believe that tomorrow, school begins. Summer went by much faster than expected. Honestly what scares me, isn't the thought of school itself but of what kind of people are going to be there. I really can use a straightforward life. Too bad we couldn't go on that trip again.

I actually want my first day to go well because I've been told on several occasions that my life in high school depends on the impression I make on the first day. I've always craved to be a social person with a nice friend group but by the looks of it, I might as well just continuing being the introverted kid. Oh well, only one way to find out.

**************

At least I look decent. I think taking a proper look at myself in the mirror. I was dressed in a black top with blue jeans and black ankle boots to match. I did my hair into wavy curls letting it drop unto my shoulders. Since it's my first day, I think I need something to stand out. I put on my gorgeous heart-shaped pendant to complete the look.

I rush downstairs to grab a bite only to be welcomed by an unfamiliar smell and a strange sight. Jack was cooking. Okay what is happ-

"Aubrey!!!" someone shouts my name running downstairs and immediately I recognised that voice.

"Avery!!!" I say crouching down a little to engulf my little sister in a bear hug. opening my arms as I bend down slightly to give my little sister a hug.

Releasing her and standing up straight I ask "How was your night?"

Avery just had to make the most ridiculous comical face I've seen scrunching her nose."It was okay, but not that good."

"Why, what happened?" I say smiling down at her.

"Your brother happened. " she says glaring at me.

Uh-oh.

"What could Jack have possibly done now?"

"I woke up in the middle of the night to grab a snack when I saw a good looking pizza ready to devour. I reached out to take a bite when he slapped my hands away. I didn't even understand why he was downstairs that late." Avery says shooting glares at Jack.

Wow. She couldn't eat in the night and by the looks of it, she wouldn't be able to eat this morning either.

"I'm so sorry, but I have more bad news." I say with a sad smile.

Avery then sniffs a little bit with her eyes bulging wide open."Don't tell me he's-"

"Cooking." I say completing her statement.

"If he's cooking, then I'm taking a gum as breakfast." Avery says reaching inside her school bag getting a packet of gum.

As much as I'd love not to eat what Jack has prepared, I can't let Avery take gum for breakfast. "What?" She says obviously realizing my death glares.

"Gum is can't be the first thing an 11 year old should eat." I say sternly ripping the packet from her grip.

Now she's the one shooting death glares. "You know that I'm eleven years old not seven right?."

"Yup, but it still doesn't change the fact that you're a kid." I say patting her head.

"Okay fine. I won't eat the gum for breakfast, but I'm also not eating whatever the heck that is." she says pointing to something strange.

"Hey hey." Ariana says walking in.

"You came early." I say hugging her.

"Yeah, I figured that since we're going to school together, I'd join you for breakfast.

At that point Avery and I snickered. "Your luck." Avery says hugging Ariana.

Ariana looks over to the kitchen noticing Jack. By the looks of it, she can't stop smiling. "Jack what's cooking?" She says heading to the kitchen.

Avery and I followed behind only to see the mess he had created. Dishes everywhere, stains on the floor and definitely flour patches on his body.

"Finally, my masterpiece is complete." Jack says proudly gesturing to what I think is chocolate cake. He then carries it to the dining table and sets the other plates around.

"Nobody eats till I come downstairs. I want to see you guys' reactions." he says excitedly before going upstairs to clean up.

"How can your Mom be cool with this." Ariana speaks up.

"I'm also confused on how she's not up by this time. If she was, this wouldn't have happened." Avery replies.

Whatever Jack cooked was definitely something questionable. It was just as dark as chocolate cake but too flat to be one. It was also too crusty to be pancakes right? So what the hell could this be?. Looks like Avery and Arian were also having a really hard time trying to figure out what was in front of us.

"I think its pancake, burnt pancake " Avery says pushing the plate aside.

"How I wish your Mom was up to see this marvellous dish in front of us." Ariana says laughing.

Suddenly my Mom rushes downstairs.
"Why does my house smell like someone lit it on fire!!!" She exclaims breathlessly.

Well this is going to be interesting.

"Well Jack cooked." I say with a sheepish grin.

"He cooked? In my house. Inside of my kitchen." My Mom questions as we all nod.

What happened next was deafening. My Mom entered the kitchen and released a piercing . Oh Lord.

"Okay time to eat." jack says coming downstairs. He then met with a furious pair of eyes.

"I don't know how you're going to do it, but you're scrubbing my entire kitchen from top to bottom before leaving for school." My Mom says angrily.

"But Mom, I can do that when I come back. Today is the first day, I can't afford to be late."

At this point, my Mom looks like she could break Jack into half. "You could have eaten some type of cereal and gone to school peacefully, but you decided to practice being a chef. How about you put those hands to use and clean my kitchen, otherwise, don't expect to eat anything for the rest of the day." My Mom says heading upstairs.

"You kids should eat quick, you're running late. Avery I'll be down in a bit to drop you off." Mom continues and with that, she's gone.

Awkward!

The silence was uncomfortable, luckily, Ariana was there to break the ice.

"Um Jack?" She questions.

"Yes?" he replies taking a seat.

"These are pancakes right?"

"More like burnt pancakes." Avery says and snickers.

"C'mon guys it's probably chocolate cake that happens to be flat. Right Jack?" I say as he shakes his head in disapproval.

"Actually I was going for scrambled eggs." Jack says sheepishly grabbing a fork and knife.

You've got to be kidding.

"Well let's hope your cooking tastes better than it looks" Ariana says grabbing her fork and knife as we all stare at her in disbelief.

"What? I'm hungry." She says taking a bite.

Honestly we're all starving but food poisoning was not an option. We all wait patiently for Ariana's remark including Jack. I guess he didn't want to be the first to gag at his masterpiece. Ariana's face surprisingly lit up.

"Tastes good." She says smiling.

Done with this chapter, finally!!!
I honestly didn't think that Jack's cooking would have turned out great but oh well. Vote and comment if you want to. Enjoy💓
