The North Gates, the largest and most used entrance and exit in the city, towered over us. One sentry tower on each side held two sentries, skilled with bow and arrow as much as a sword. The sentry on the left gave the signal to the soldiers below them to open the gates. Cameras dotted every wall and corner.

The guards made quick notice of who I was and stepped aside. The navy blue and silver in their uniforms shined brightly in the summer sun. Their uniforms were clean and tidy which could only mean one thing; they were fresh meat. Eager and desperate to prove they should be fighting battles or going off to slay off monstrous beasts in unknown lands.

They were stationed by the Royal Guard so if they screw it up, they screw up big time. No one to fall back or lean on. They train under us but it is the Crown Prince of Eonia who commands them. The one test that decides a good king or a terrible one. I would not mind if our king dies and rots in hell. If I end up there, I'll drag him down with me.

Everyone stopped what they were doing and stared. I saw Lee's parents and smiled. They were the best bakers of Kalimera, probably all of Eonia. His mom started to jump when she saw her son, proud and tall. Pride beamed from his father as we made our way to the castle. His younger sisters started to giggle when a few of the male soldiers walked past. I could have sworn I heard Lee gag and groan in disgust. I sent a quick wave to them and they waved back.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Collette giving Lee looks that will never be returned. Lee accidentally hit her during sparing and caused her to bleed. That has not stopped Collette from pining after him. And sometimes making a fool of herself in the process.

The grand castle was getting bigger as we approached. More guards were spotted on the streets until there were only guards. The king and queen are very paranoid and always believe someone is out to get them.  I doubt anyone wants to be even three feet near them.

We entered through the stables connected to the barracks while my horse and Lee's were taken to the royal stables. In case the castle was attacked, we need to get the royal family to safety as quickly as possible.

The stable boys on duty helped to unload the caravans once they were parked. Then unclasped the horses and met their needs. I ordered everyone to rest up for whatever tomorrow brought.

I was observing my dagger when a young boy came running towards me. He looked about eleven at most, from his stature and youth on his face. Pure innocence in this sinful castle. His breath came out in short puffs before he announced his message.

"His Majesty requests your presence tomorrow at noon. Alone."

I nodded my head in thanks and he gave me a grin. I smiled to myself as he ran off with a hop and a skip.

Lee looked over at me but I simply shook my head. He held my gaze for a moment longer before talking again to our infantry captain. The captain seemed to be occupied by his boyfriend's ass before Lee swatted him on the head. It didn't stop the captain at all, he actually seemed to be more encouraged.

Inwardly laughing to myself, I found my other captains and gave orders to them. I walked over to Lee as he finished up the duties I gave him.

"Hey Lieutenant, you free tonight?" I joked.

He gave me a smirk that made girls fall to their knees. "To stuff our faces with chocolate and gossip? Of course, milady."

"My room after dinner. Bring some wine."

"Is that a smart idea? You have a meeting with His Majesty at noon."

I rolled my eyes. "A little wine never hurt anyone. Don't be overprotective."
