December 9, 1971

Today was the day we officially started recording our new songs. Of course it would take a while, but we all had good attitudes because we were extremely excited.

"Alright darlings, Abby will be a bit late today because she has an exam, so what should we do?" Fred asked.

"Well what's up with you lads?" Brian asked.

"Nothing new really," John said quietly.

"Well I'm going out with Abby's roommate Annie and she's thinking about moving in with me." Brian said proudly.

I lost track of their conversation after that because they mentioned Abby. She's been attempting to avoid me for so long, it's like not even possible to try and get this girl to fall for you. She's so beautiful and her personality is amazing, I fucking love it when she gets all mad and sassy it's so hot.

Soon before I knew it everything blacked out which I was on the couch waiting for Abby to come to the studio.

••

"Roger wake up," Freddie said as he shook me violently.

I mumbled some explicits under my breath and rubbed my eyes. I saw the others were waiting on me so I went ahead and got up. They told me they were wanting to first record my drum solo for Keep Yourself Alive.

"I'm the first recording? Oh what an honor it is," I joked around.

"Just get up and play your solo. We would like to go over it," Brian said.

I nodded and got up and went over to the extremely nice drum kit that was at the back of the room. When Abby was ready for me to start playing, she gave the a thumbs up. I played my drum solo like I never had before, I felt so powerful. Once I was finished I looked up at Abby who looked star struck at what she had just seen. I gave her a little smirk and went back to sit on the couch.

"Abby?" John said, which seemed to snap her out of it.

"Oh- Sorry, what's next?"

"Well, all of us are going to play together for the backtrack. Then we'll get Freddie to sing," Brian said.

I groaned as I got up one again, wincing in pain as my sore hands picked up my drum sticks that I had just played with.

"Can I at least have a break? I just played a lot," I sighed.

"You're weak darling, but sure go ahead. Roger can play his parts in a bit and we can add them to the backtrack later," Freddie snapped.

I went and sat back on the couch in the mix room where Abby was. I watched as she hit record and gave the rest of the band a thumbs up. She also looked at the rest of the band with excitement.

"Stop!" Freddie shouted.

Abby jumped and quickly stopped recording. I watched as she had a bit of fear in her.

"What's wrong Fred?" She asked.

"My vocals are terrible! I want to do a few practices!"

She nodded and let the rest of the band do whatever they wanted while Freddie was warming up. I decided this was a perfect time for small talk.

"How's your morning?" I asked.

"It's a morning all right," she chuckled softly.

"Is it alright if I grab a cup of coffee?"

"Go for it, could you grab me one as well?"

I nodded and went to go grab two coffees. This felt like the most she's talked to me in a while, which I'm assuming is a good thing. I hope it's a good things, I guess giving her some space really helps. Girls are crazy sometimes, I swear on my life.

I sighed as I heard Freddie yelling, he did that when he wasn't confident in himself. I grabbed the coffees and headed back to the mix room. I handed Abby hers, and sat back on the couch.

"No Brian! You wouldn't know anything about singing if it hit you in the face!" I shouted.

"Can you just shut up and sing? We're wasting time," Abby said into the mic.

Freddie nodded and started singing again. He did a few more bits before he was ready to record.

"Roger when do you think you'll be ready to record you part?" Abby asked once Freddie got done singing.

"In a few, my hands are still killing me," I groaned.

She nodded and tended back to the others. After a few more minutes, they were finished and wanted me to play my part. Of course, I had to agree so I went ahead and did it.

I sat at the very nice drum kit that was in the studio. I put on a pair of headphones and waited for the thumbs up from Abby. Once she gave it, I played my heart out on these drums. I played everything like I had never before. I played my drum solo a bit differently, but with the same concept. Once I was done I groaned and went to the mix room where the boys were already mixing the tapes.

I sipped my coffee and sat bored as could be. This was good thinking time for my song that I was going to contribute for the album. I want it to have the word loser somewhere in the title. I thought long and hard for what felt like forever until I finally got the perfect name I wanted to call it.

The Loser in The End.

I thought about a few things and went into deep thinking until I heard Freddie yell at me.

"Roger!"

"What?"

"Do you like what we did darling? We didn't like your drum solo for when your recorded the whole song, so we took it out and replaced it with the first recording of it."

I listened to it as they played it through the room. I actually really liked what they did with my drum tracks. Freddie is a genius. Abby looked at me and smiled as if she were impressed. I smiled back and she looked away to look at the soundboard.

Mama's got a problem. I like that. I need to add that.

They were planning on going back and doing a few more takes of Keep Yourself Alive, so that gave me the rest of the day to think about what I want this song to be.

And I have the perfect ideas.
