Jandra ripped a card off the top of the box. She read it with a smile on her face. "Seems someone has a secret admirer."
I took the note from her. My heart leaped. It can't be. It can't be him. My first love.
* * * *
Have you ever been in a situation you don't want to be in, yet, you refuse to rescue yourself even though, you can?
That's what I'm going through right now as I sit, staring in a front of me with a brilliant smile, at this guy who I know. Not. On a fucking date.
I can't believe I agreed to come to this date.
Jandra's boyfriend, Mike had a friend and they decided to invite and his friend for a double date since I was Jandra's bestfriend.
Now, Jandra and her lover had bailed on me and the guy who I know nothing about for an emergency she and her boyfriend needed to handle and they urged us to continue eating, Jandra's eyes pleading.
Is she serious? The last thing I wanna do now is date. Especially, not when I was striving hard for my career.
"Georgina," Mike's friend started to say. I corrected him immediately.
"Giorgia!" A fake smile etched on my face.
"My apologies, Giorgia." He placed his cutlery down. He smiled, his eye crinkling as he did. "You seem very uncomfortable being here with me. You look like you would rather be anywhere but here."
I suddenly felt guilty. I wasn't exactly paying any attention to him. He had been seriously trying to converse with me. All I did was think about a dress I have to make for a business tycoon's daughter for her birthday. I haven't had an idea of what design to make for the little teenager. Teenagers, these days were hard to please.
"I'm so sorry. I just had a lot on my mind lately." I pleaded seriously.
He smiled warmly. I only just noticed the way he carried himself. He had a friendly, warm air around him. He had a sense of comfortable.
"Boy problem?" I laughed, mocking myself.
"Boy problem!" I repeated. "It's far from boy problem. I have work, lots of works to finish at the office."
He chuckled slightly. "Oh! I'm so sorry if I wasted your time."
"It's nothing." I smiled warmly but, my strained voice said differently.
I picked on my food. The restaurant seemed expensive. The food was nice too but, I hated seafood.
"I could drop you by your office. If you.." I jumped at the offer immediately. Just like I said already, Jandra was seriously trying to hook me up with this guy. When I offered to drive my car to the restaurant, she insisted that Mike was going to pick us and dropped us back at work. Now, she jilted me. Such a nice friend.
"Sure." I was already up at my feet, grabbing my purse and jacket.
He smiled and followed suit. Mike had already paid our bill before he left to heaven knows where with Jandra.
The drive to my office was short. Mike's friend and I chatted all the way to my office. He did all the talking. I was not really outspoken with strangers.
He talked alot, about his work, his friendship with Mike and anything really for us to converse about.
I gave him my full attention this time since I was being a bitch in the restaurant. He didn't really seemed to mind. He was still nice to me.
In no time, his car stopped in front of my office. We bade our goodbyes.
"Hey!" I knocked on his window. He wound down his window. "Um.. I didn't quite catch your name." He chuckled at my embarrassment.
"It's Hayden."
"Ok. Bye." He nodded at me before he drove.
I walked straight to my office. It was very pleasant. Not really. It was as if hurricane blew over my office. It was a mess with all the used and torn papers littered everywhere -on my desk, on the floor, even on my office chair.
I sighed and started cleaning up. I sighted the package I received this morning. I settled the box on my lap as I took a seat. I picked the card on top and read it again.
Dear Lily,
Missed me?!
xx
StalkerThese few words were enough to confirm that it was indeed Stalker. I haven't heard from him in ages. I had met him in Busan when his family came from NY for vacation.
When I, first, saw the note, a wave of nostalgia washed over me.
Our first meeting wasn't exactly wondrous. He saved me from jumping off a bridge because he was stalking me. He claimed to have seen me when he was leaving his house that morning and he deemed me stalk-worthy. At that time, I was twelve. My grandma who I had lived with in Busan happened to her died that day. I have missed her so dearly.
She was the only one who loved me. You really can't blame me for being a bitch to my family. They were bitches to me first.
After my granny's death, my dad decided it was my very unlucky luck that killed his mother. He deemed it fit to disown me. I was stupid. Really stupid for trying to jump a bridge for someone who didn't care for me. They didn't love me, I came to that realization as quickly as Stalker pulled me up the bridge.
As soon I came to that realization, I stopped crying. I am going to be weak and cry like a baby, I told my twelve year old self.
911 had already arrived by the time Stalker pulled me up. They were probably called over by passerbys that were surrounding Stalker and I.
I was checked by the paramedics. Questions were asked about how I came to trip over. Stalker was quick to answer that I was leaning over and I tripped.
A cop gave me a questioning glare and I nodded to confirm Stalker's story. The female cop offered to take me home. I wasn't exactly looking good. She thought I was still shaken by the incident.
When I got home, Jandra's granny scolded me for not being careful. Then, hug me tightly and cried on me while Jandra's mom gave me pitiful looks. Jandra was wiping away a few tears falling down her face. I think they all knew what really happened.
I averted my eyes away from Jandra. I didn't want to cry. I wasn't going to cry. Just like that, I started putting my walls.
I spent the rest of the evening in my room that day. That was I peaked out the window and saw Stalker through the window of a storey house similar to mine. He lived next door.
I figured it was his room. I could make out a bed, a desk and chair from where I was. He was busy with his computer on his desk. He turned his head towards my direction. He must have felt my glare.
He smiled and waved when he saw me. He wasn't surprised at all. I ignored him and closed my curtains. The idiot knew me. He knew I lived here. He really was a stalker.
