LEANING AGAINST THE counter, Brandi waited for a fresh pot of coffee to brew as she sketched a small frog in the corner of her notepad, having tuned out the tale Taylor had been babbling on about while he ate his eggs.

"And do you know what I said?" Taylor asked, gesturing to himself with the prongs of his fork.

She held back a sigh, not sparing a glance, "What'd you say?"

"I'll tell you what I said, I told him he was a complete basket-case. Ha! Can you believe that?"

"No way," said Brandi as she raised her head and met her father's gaze from across the diner, shooting him a pleading look.

Luke made an attempt to suppress his amused smile, taking his time inching towards them.

"More?" He asked, gesturing to Taylor's drained cup with the coffee pot.

Taylor dropped his knife and fork with a clink, looking to Luke with a cheery grin, "Abso-tive-olutely."

Brandi raised a brow, sharing a confused glance with her father, who resumed filling the coffee cup as he asked, "What's up, Taylor?"

"'What's up'? I know nothing up," he stated, "I'm just happy."

     "That's what makes me nervous."

Taylor shifted his beady gaze to Brandi and said, "Your father is a paranoid man. I feel very sad for the both of you."

As the door to the diner swung open, Brandi breathed a sigh of relief as Lorelai and Rory entered, being quick to use their arrival as her scapegoat.

"Sorry, Taylor," she told him, flashing an apologetic smile and gesturing to the Gilmore's, "I've gotta' help out with the customers."

Taylor nodded, "Ah, of course. I wouldn't want to keep you from your duties, would I?"

Without sparing a glance, she gathered up her notebook and tucked her pen behind her ear as she shot across the diner, coming to a halt before the two girls.

"Whoa, easy there, tiger," Lorelai said, looking Brandi up and down. "Are you practising for a marathon?"

"Sure," she said and inclined her head towards the balding man at the counter, "if it's the 'how fast can you get away from Taylor' marathon."
