"YOU'VE BEEN SITTING their for two hours," Luke told Kirk, whose face bore a bland expression.
"I just want a little more coffee."
"Kirk," said Brandi, tossing her rag across her her shoulder, "you've already had eight refills."
"You know in France, when you sit and order, you can have the table as long as you want it," he informed, his brows raising a slight.
"I bet you know what I'm gonna say next," said Luke, bracing the edge of the table as he peered at Kirk across it.
"That we're not in France?"
"Do you see any mimes here, Kirk?" Brandi asked, head tilting.
Pursing his lips, he said, "Fine, I'll go. Can I have my check?"
Luke reached towards a long forgotten piece of paper that rested by Kirk's drained coffee cup, simply slamming it back down beside it.
"As always, it was a pleasure doing business with you, Kirk," said Brandi, flashing him a sugar-coated smile before heading back around the counter.
Seated by the register was Sookie St. James, who's voice was hushed as she chatted away over the phone. Not wanting to disturb her, Brandi gestured towards her empty cup, whispering, "Did you want a refill?"
"Huh— oh, no, I'm fine. Thanks Brandi," she said, brows furrowing as she leaned into the phone. "What? Oh, right. Here," she extended a hand towards Brandi, "Lorelai wants to talk to you."
Brushing her bangs from her eyes, she nodded as she took the phone, saying, "Hey, Lorelai. How's everything?"
"Hey! Everything's, um . . . good, I was just wondering if you'd heard about me and Max?"
She had. It'd been Miss Patty and Babette's chosen topic during breakfast and Brandi had eavesdropped their gossip as she cleared away a nearby table. "Yeah," she said, "I did. I'm really sorry about that. Are you okay?"
"Never been better," said Lorelai, though the edge to her voice suggested otherwise. "Hey, does your dad know yet?"
