Thomas stood on his balcony looking down at his kingdom. His crown weighed heavily on his head physically and mentally. He could see the town slowly coming to life as the sun rose up. The townspeople walked to their work while they greeted each other. Thomas liked watching the town and he felt a small smile forming on his face. He jumped but quickly composed his posture when he heard a knock on his door. 'Come in.' Thomas said sturdy. He learned how to behave properly the moment he was born and he knew almost every rule. Thomas door opened and he saw one of his most trusted knights standing in front of him. 'Sire, we need you in the throne room.' Aris was a slim boy but he was a good fighter. He was fast and fought dirty so he always won. He was the greatest fighter of Thomas' kingdom and only Thomas was better. Thomas looked good at Aris and realised that Aris was growing up. He stood there in the usually dark blue knights armor representing Thomas' kingdom. Thomas remembered meeting Aris when they were only six. Aris had the brightest blue eyes that shown full of hope and excitement. Now they looked dull and mature. Thomas wished he could go back to the time were there wasn't this much pressure on him. They had to grow up way to fast. Thomas shook his thoughts away when he realised that he had not given any answer or moved since Aris came in. 'Off course, I will be there in a minute.' Aris only nodded and walked away. He closed the door and signed. Thomas wondered why they needed him in the throne room but there was only one way of finding out. He picked up his robe and put it on, making sure it was on right. Thomas walked to his mirror and saw that he looked terrible. He saw the dark black bags under his eyes from the lack of sleep. The responsibility of ruling a kingdom at twenty one was keeping him awake at night. He was full of worries and doubts about not doing the right thing, but he knew he had to do this. Thomas closed his eyes and took a deep breath, preparing himself of the dangerous world outside of his room. Thomas walked out of his room directly to the throne room. While he was walking with his hands neatly behind his back. Servants walked past him greeting him politely like they should. Thomas looked in the servants eyes as they walked past him and he already expected it but it hurted every time he saw it. Fear. He saw fear in his eyes. He wanted nothing more than that his people to trust him and respect them. But they looked at him with fear and he didn't blame them. Thomas had to remind himself why he was doing this. He finally reached the throne room and the two guards opened the big doors. He looked at the room and saw that some of his advisors and knights were there. They all had their head turned to him. He walked straight to his throne and made with nobody eye contact. Thomas sat down on his throne and held his head high up to show his power. His eyes glanced to his right and saw that Aris stood there like always. 'What is the reason i was called?' Thomas spoke loud and clear so that everyone could hear him. 'One of the main cooks was caught stealing food from the kitchen last night. The guards found him and brought him to the dungeons.' Aris spoke directly to Thomas. 'Bring him in.' Thomas waved with his hand signing that they brought the prisoner. Not moments later two guards brought the cook in with chains around his hands. The cook was filthy and Thomas guessed that was because he slept in the dungeons. The cook was looking down not making eye contact with anyone. 'Bow before your king.' Thomas said with his normal but powerful voice. 'No.' murmured the man in front of him. If it was said any quieter than Thomas wouldn't have heard it. Thomas couldn't believe that this man spoke against the king. He was either really brave or really stupid. Thomas looked around to see the other reactions. Everyone was dumbfounded. Aris was the first one to speak. ' How dare you go against the king! Bow now!' Aris screamed. The man finally looked up and Thomas got a good look at his face. He looked like he was around his fifties. He had brown hair but what stood out the most were his eyes. They were soft and brown and full of care. You could see he was a father by the look in his eyes. 'No.' spoke the man louder. Aris looked like he was about to speak but Thomas interrupted him. 'What's your name?' 'Jonathon.' The cook said without fear. ' Is it true? Did you steal from the kitchen?' 'Yes, I did. But I only did it for my family. They are starving, I had to help them. ' Thomas felt bad for him, but he knew he had to kill him. But was that enough? would it please Him? Thomas knew that it wouldn't please Him. So Thomas thought of the worst thing he could possibly imagine. He knew that He was always watching. ' I like you Jonathon. You're brave but also stupid. So I'm gonna do you a favour.' Thomas felt awful for what he was doing, but he knew that he had to do it. He wanted so bad to just let Jonathon go back to his family, but he knew that wasn't an option. Thomas looked up at Jonathon seeing hope in his eyes. And he finally build the courage to say it: ' My favour is that i'm going to kill you first so that you don't see your family die by my hand.' Jonathon face fell and he started screaming and crying. 'YOU CAN'T DO THIS! PLEASE MY FAMILY IS INNOCENT! THEY DID NOTHING, KILL ONLY ME PLEASE. I'm begging you.' He said the last part in a small voice. 'Bring him away and kill him and his family.' Thomas said finally. 'You're an awful king. you don't deserve the crown. Everyone fears you. Do you want to be known as the king that no one trust and fears. You're a tirant! 'Jonathon screamed the last part as the guards took him away. A few guards went after him probably going to his family. Thomas hoped this was enough. Thomas hoped this would please Him.
