"Hey." Fitz said nervously.
Sophie was literally falling apart on the inside. Fitz was the last person she wanted to talk to right now.
Biana mumbled something about needing a drink and then she went inside. Traitor. Sophie thought sadly.
"Soph, look- I'm sorry." Fitz said quietly "I shouldn't have pushed you. I know we'll find your dad and you'll tell me who your mom is when you're ready."
Sophie laughed. It was a cold, harsh laugh.
"You don't get it, Fitz. I'm not going to find him." Sophie replied angrily.
Fitz looked confused. "Then how will you ever get your matchmaking lists?"
Sophie wanted to scream and punch Fitz in the face. He just didn't get it. Sophie couldn't find her biological dad, and she couldn't tell anyone who her biological mom was, either. Sophie's entire world was falling apart, and all Fitz could think about was freaking matchmaking!
Sophie tried to calm herself a bit before she spoke. "I'm not going to get my matchmaking lists. I'm unmatchable." Sophie said coldly, anger seeping into her tone.
Fitz looked looked dazed. Sophie could tell he still didn't get it.
Fitz stepped forward, and put a hand on Sophie's waist. Before she could react, Fitz bent down and kissed her.
They pulled away slowly, the warmth of the kiss receding. "I just want you, Soph."
Sophie's emotions raged like a whirlwind in her head. She was mad at Fitz, but then she wanted to kiss him at the same time. Her life was falling apart, and she couldn't do anything about it.
"Fitz, I-" Sophie didn't know what to say. Fitz didn't seem to know what to say either. Or even talk at all, for that matter. Instead, he just pressed his lips to Sophie's again.
Sophie shoved him off of her. "Fitz- I can't- I can't do this."
Fitz looked like a wounded puppy. "Why not?"
Sophie steadied her breaths. "You don't love me." Saying those words out loud, Sophie knew they were true.
Fitz's expression was angry. He looked as though Sophie had just punched him in the gut.
"Soph, I love you more than you can imagine." Fitz tried to kiss her again.
Sophie pushed him away, tears running down her cheeks. "If you really loved me- it wouldn't matter if I was unmatchable or not."
Sophie turned and stomped back to the house, leaving Fitz behind her. Sophie didn't look back.
When she made it back to her room, she finally broke down. She sobbed until there just weren't anymore tears left to shed.
And then emotional exhaustion overpowered her, and she drifted off to sleep.
