Japan sat on the wheel and thanked God she didn't return the car keys America gave her at the beginning of the week, she pushed the peddles and moved the cabriolet backward and forward before spinning the car entirely and got to the right direction and in no time she was on the asphalt road rushing down the uneven highway through the farm field. By this time of night, it was definitely dark but she remembered the main road and how to get out but would this be enough to get to the city? maybe so, what about the urge to sleep, no matter, guess she just took the chances and thought she'd make it to the city just fine.
At 2 am in the morning in autumn either cold or still warm weather, hallucinations were still present, it could've been just your imagination but who knew what was lurking in the dark, even with the street lamp post in every few miles the stars wasn't bright enough to light up the darker corners, she was scared something might jump out at any minute, it could be an unpleasant or unsettled spirit or being more realistic at night there were crazy people. Nonetheless, the ride was going pretty well, at about 1 hour she parked the car in a markets parking lot, apparently, the market was open 24 hours and she wanted to grab something to drink, might as well grab snacks as well.
Upon entering she bowed a bit to the girl cashier as a hello but eyes looked at some other direction, she quickly hurried off the drinks and grabbed a pocari-sweat, mount dew, chocolate bar, and gummy bear before stepping out the market with a yawn, '3: 00 already', she thought, that's when she realized, in the spot she parked America's car, the car absolutely vanished.
Permission to panik? DENIED. because I'm kidding 乁(ᴗ ͜ʖ ᴗ)ㄏ.
It was a call that alerted Japan, she got her phone, ignored the number and picked it up, "Hai?" she replied hoarsely, "Japan where are you? did you go to sleep already, sorry if I woke you, it's just that you disappeared and-.."
"No, don't worry I'm not sleeping, not today am not, and I'm not at the camp, I'm going back to the city a bit early, I needed to talk to someone," she replied sheepishly, "t- to the city? where are you right now?" the voice sounded a bit panicked and asked hurriedly, "You can say I stole America's car but legally, and don't worry I'll call him later and tell'em about this,"
"Um..alright, so..who was it that you needed to talk to so impatiently that you couldn't wait till tomorrow?" Peru asked, but the other line remained silent so he thought it was private and skipped to the last question, "Okay so I hope you know the way back, and please take care.."
Japan nodded and sighed, "I gotta hang up now, waka tte kurete arigatō.." (thanks for understanding)
That was the last call she had since she went to the market, now why was she so desperate to get to the city today? maybe it had something to do with her feelings, on the side of the book America and Russia weren't the only ones solving their puzzle of feelings, (a side note; Japan and Germany are side characters so this is the only chapter speaking the full story part of their relationship)
- It all started when Japan started to notice dark circles around Germany's eyes, his tired posture and how slim he got, she asked a couple of times if he was eating well and sleeping but he always had the same response, 'I worked a little too much, I just need rest, that's all', so like a caring younger 'sister', and to be specific they actually had more history together, they were closer than it seemed, she started to bring him homemade meals at lunch, it was the least she could do.
Now it was almost 5 in the morning and she was still going on the highway but presently she was starting to panic, something was odd, she already passed the huge cornfield, and the market, these were the only two things that she remembered passing, did she zone out somewhere along the way?
- "Say, don't people in your country usually give homemade meals or beautifully wrapped cookies to their crush?" he chuckled teasingly.
"Oh shut up, it's nothing like that, I just care about your well being." she pouted and turned back to making curry rice, Germany sitting at the table sighed and stretched, in a couple of minutes he stood up to help Japan, he felt a little uncomfortable watching her cook while he just watched. "Thanks for coming over, it get's really lonely here.."
In the end, after a couple more minutes she pulled the car at a stop and sighed, "I...have no idea where I am.." she heaved. "I think now's the best time to call Germany and ask for help..." she frowned, this was not was she wanted and not in the least what she expected but now it was better to call him rather than get more lost. She picked up her cellphone and dialed the numbers and waited for an answer, in about 20 seconds in, someone picked up the phone, almost, it was the voicemail, 'Hey, I'm kinda busy right now, but I'll call you back, thanks.' 'now press 1 if you want to leave a voicemail or press 2 if -', "Tch." she scoffed and immediately pressed 1 and recorded the voicemail, "Germany. I rode off into the city without the others, I was heading to your place cuz I was worried but I'm kinda lost now and I have no idea where I am, sorry to disturb but my phone battery is dying and I can't open the GPS, can you track me down and help me out, please? and get an uber." and hung up.
...
Germany's home telephone kept ringing or buzzing, just some annoying sound was heard coming from the hall, he woke up drooling over the table, he probably passed out sitting on the kitchen counter. Well, that wasn't news but the right side on his cheek was looking terrible, it looked like someone ironed his face flat, he groaned and stretched while the buzzing sound kept going on and off, "Geez this telephone, it was the uttermost annoying phone I've ever heard ever since the beginning, who's calling at this hour anyway?"
He picked himself up heavily, it felt like a weight was pushing him to the ground, well I mean what else did he expect from sleeping in that position, his back was sour and his neck was numb, his eyes were swollen and to be honest he looked like the dead.
Once he got to the hall dragging his legs on the floor, he looked at the phone and clicked the button that was supposed to answer voice messages, and his eyes went wide hearing the first 2 lines, and actually the other reason he wasn't expecting Japan to call at all, but then he started to panic now that he knew she was lost who knows where. He came falling back to earth from his sleep and immediately called back, it said she was out of reach, which meant her phone battery was already dead, he sighed then quickly rushed upstairs to get dressed.
Japan: "He's not going to come for me, is he, so what am I getting my hopes up for...?"
The thing is, she confessed to him really hoping to be with him, but he... rejected?
