Prologue

Even before my first shift, I was always the odd one out in my pack. I never knew my parents, so I grew up with my friend Oliver and his family. I never spoke to anyone, other than Oliver and his parents, and even then, my sentences never went past a few words. I preferred mind-linking. Instead of playing outside with the other kids, I would just be in the pack library reading books or training with Oliver for the Annual Shifting Trials.

Created by Alpha Nicholas, the Trials took place on the first of January every year. Any wolves who had their first shift the previous year would have to participate. There were usually around twenty new shifters each year, mostly all 14-year-olds, occasionally a wolf a year younger or older. The Trials were originally set in place to determine a new shifter's placement in the pack, but over the years, new rules have been made. The most recent one is that the two wolves who place last are exiled from the pack, no matter the current status. Even the children of the Alpha, Beta, or Gamma could be kicked out if they placed last. The higher place a wolf was, the more respect they got.

Oliver and I are the same age, but he was an early shifter at the age of 13, so he took the trials the year before I did. He was also lucky and had his first shift in May, letting him have several months to train in wolf form. Out of 21 wolves, he placed 7th, awarding him a position of one of the higher ranking pack warriors. But for me, my first shift was only a few minutes before the Trials started, not giving me any time to get used to being a wolf.

I know that was short, but that was just the prologue; ima try and make the chapters 1,000+ words. lOvElY. wudya think. Honesty if I even get 5 view on this crappy lame excuse of a book I'll be happy. Ima also try not to make this book cliché, so if anything is, just tell me and I'll change it, unless y'all like cliché things.
