"This was a bad idea" Anais said as she ran a hand threw her long inky hair. Oliver had once again stood her up leaving her alone in the dimly light dinner. She threw a twenty dollar bill onto the table as she took a quick sip of her root beer before leaving. "Maybe this is for the better" She muttered as she started her walk to the closes convenience store. This was the third time Oliver had stood her up and left her alone in shady places. Anais shook her head Trying to clear her mind as she pulled down the sleeves of her crème turtleneck.
A smile appeared on her face when she heard the small ding of the bell when she walked threw the door. The store was light by only two lights and the one in the far left corner was flickering. She cursed under her breathe as she walked up the cashier. She looked around forty with puffy blonde hair and spray tanned skin and her face was caked with makeup.
"Where's the bathroom?" Anais asked as she looked around the store. The lady blew a bubble with her gum making the air around us smell like cinnamon.
"It's in the back" She said as she put a key of the counter.
"Thank you" Anais responded sweetly as she took the key and scurried of to the bathroom.
She frowned as she fumbled with the lock.
"Anais?" an all to familiar voice filled her ears. She cringed when the key hit the ground.
"Oliver" She muttered out as she stared at the door instead of turning around to face him. He placed his hand of her shoulder and then spun her around.
"Hi" He said as he gave her his infamous crooked smile that made her feel all warm. Anais's dark green eyes met his hazel ones. He was close, to close Anais's thought as she stared at his beat up red converses that were touching her unbleached white ones. She slowly lifted her deer-like eyes from the dirty convenience stores floor and trailed them up his body taking it all in.
Oliver was wearing a pair of discolored jeans with a white shirt one. A brown leather jacket covered most of his shirt. He still had that smug smile on his face that Anais just waited to smack off his pretty face. His hair looked messy, but she knew he probably messed it up on purpose. Oliver opened his mouth, but before he could even speak Anais put her hands on his chest and shoved him back into one of the rows before picking up the bathroom key and rushing off to give it back to the woman. The woman behind the desk gave her a confused look as Oliver walked up behind her.
"I'm sorry I was late" Oliver said in a low tone as Anais turned around. He was much to close for comfort now. His arm was touching her own and she could smell the scent of root beer from his breathe.
"I didn't think you would show up" He continued as if he didn't have Anais pushed up against the stores counter with a worker right in front of them.
"I always show up Oliver, we both know that" She replied with fire in her voice as she looked up at the confused worker. Anais gave the woman a small smile before moving outside the shop with Oliver fast on her tracks. Oliver moved his hand up and picked at the mole on the back of his neck, a habit he developed when he became nervous.
"You don't gotta act like that Anais"
"Sorry" She muttered as she shoved her hands into the front pocket of her jeans. Anais watched as she pushed over a pebble that was on the parking lot instead of making eye contact with Oliver.
"Excuse me, could I get threw the door please" Hissed out a young mother as she tried
to get pass the two teens with her three little children. The two teens nodded to the woman as they stepped out of her way.
"Why don't we continue this conversation at my house?"
"My brother doesn't get home until seven" Oliver added before Anais even got the chance to think of an excuse.
Anais let out a deep breathe as she looked up from the ground and at Oliver. He looked so charming. Innocent even with his pretty hazel eyes and curly soft mahogany hair. Oliver didn't look like the kind of person Anais knew him to be, in fact sometimes she questioned how he ever became so sick. Anais followed Oliver to his beat up truck, her mind clouded by the image he portrayed.
