Things Are Heating Up

Weather had been rather warm in the recent weeks in the town of (H/T) and you were finding it intolerable to say the least. Yeah, summers were always hot but it was never like this. You stick your head out of your apartment window, hoping to catch a slight breeze of some kind. Not a single spot of wind passed you by. Typical. You move back over to the worn leather couch, plopping down into a fabric and in front of the fan you had placed on the table. It wasn't helping. Perhaps a leather couch wasn't the best choice. Hadn't really thought that through huh?
You fan yourself with your hand, picking up your mobile with the other and ordering a pizza, too hot to cook. That and you were too lazy to walk five feet to the kitchen in this heatwave. You couldn't if you tried. You were stuck to the leather like glue.
The heatwave had started two short weeks ago, accompanied by yellowish clouds. For a few days everyone thought it was the apocalypse. You had to admit that it was rather amusing to watch all the nutjobs come out of the woodwork, carrying their ' The End Is Near ' signs and running around like madmen. Shame it only lasted a couple days. The clouds soon cleared up, leaving the heat behind and everything returned to normal.
At first you were happy to see some sunshine but now it was proving a pain. The shops were constantly out of stock on drinks and the three cold showers you took a day to keep cool was really effecting your water bill. You had read every book you owned, watched every movie and summer was only just beginning and as you sat there in the dead of night, sweating profusely you wondered how long this freaky weather would last. You look up at the clock, 9:45pm. Had you really been lost in your thoughts that long? It had been nearly an hour since you ordered your pizza and you couldn't wait to sink your teeth into some pepperoni and cheese. It sounded so good, making your mouth water at the pure thought.
Despite the lead you felt like was in your legs, you manage to pull yourself to your feet. The pain that ran through you was unlike anything you had ever felt. Even in the dead of night you had managed to get a sunburn. Your skin was flakey and red, itchy and hot. It was almost unbearable.
You manage to hobble over to the sink, splashing icy water of your flaming hot skin. You heard it sizzle, a look of shock spreading across your face.
" Well damn "
You look back at your reflection in the sink, the water shimmering under the moonlight. You could almost loose yourself in such a sight, running your slender fingers through the water gracefully and watching the water ripple underneath.
You smile softly to yourself. Water had always meserized you, caught your attention and the more you stared the more you felt yourself being pulled into those cold depths. You didn't know whether you were crazy or if it was the heat, shoving your face into the water without a second thought. So cool, a treated for your reddened features. However, your contentment didn't stay for long. The sound of rumbling, almost like thunder spread through the room, your belongings falling off every surface.
A flash of yellow light rips through the water's once translucent color, causing you to lift yourself up. You drop onto the counter, watching out the window in astonishment as a ball of yellow mass speeds across the sky.
" What the? "
