(Auther note: I just want to apologize for the late update of this story! I will try and update more often and longer chapters from now on thank you for being patient. P.S this chapter is a little gruesome and dark you have been warned )
Kirishima was sound asleep with Bakugou in his arms. The storm from last night had passed and left a beautiful sunny day. The sun poked its way through a crack in the door and in Bakugous face waking him up. At first he didn't notice he was in Kiris arm his first thought was he was wrapped in so many furs he had finally felt warm, but as soon as the world around him started to become a reality his face became a dark red. Quickly he sneaked his way out of the red heads grasp and onto the cold cabin floor. Bakugou took in deep breaths trying to calm his nerves. He didn't remember much from the night before and honestly he wasn't too sure he wanted to.
After gaining back what little pride he had left after his crying fit in front of the dragon, and the fact that he fell asleep cuddling him, he stood up from the floor. He was half tempted to wake Kirishima so he had someone to talk to, and to apologize for acting like a baby the night before. However, as he put a hand on the dragons shoulder to gently shake him awake something stopped him. Just the look on Kirishimas face showed for probably the first time since nursing him back to health he was finally having a peaceful sleep.
Bakugous P.O.V
That damn face of his. I cant get it out of my mind! Not just when he's sleeping, Its all the time. Even after being beaten, enslaved, ripped away from your family, and left to die on the side of the river; how can you still carry on with a smile. Everything about him just seems... amazing? Im not sure how to put it, but if I were him I wouldn't be so forgiving.
It took some time fixing the cabin and taking down some of the boarding I had put up, to at least give this old cabin a chance, from the storm. I tried to work quietly to try and not wake Kirishima but I managed to wake him halfway through the process with my constant cursing and shouting every time the board wouldn't budge.
Third person
Kirishima exited the cabin to find Bakugou curing at a piece of wood. Lucky for Bakugou it wasn't the weirdest thing he had seen him do. "hey Kiri" Bakugou shouted once he saw him. "Grab a few buckets of water from the river!" he said throwing another wooden log in the pile. "Ok!" and with that Kiri grabbed two of the buckets and made his way to the river not too far from the tree line. Kiri took a second to kneel down by the river and smile. This river, like any river, had stories, and in kirishimas life time it held his whole world. He set the buckets down and rolled up his pant legs before stepping into the water. The water rushed across his feet as he took a step in. The water felt refreshing and cool. The sand under his feet was soft. As he made his way into deeper water up to his knees and dipped the first bucket in.
As he filled the bucket he looked across the river and sniffed the air. Something was off.. He set the bucket down on the bank and crossed the water to the other side. Sniffing the air again he followed the smell. He knew this smell, but didn't want it to be true. He followed the sent deep into the woods until he had reached its source. Kirishima covered his mouth and nearly vomited at the sight. Just off of the man made path there was a massacre. Burnt and strung up bodies of Knights covered, from what he could tell, a camp sight. The smell he was following was of the blood and burnt flesh. Hesitently Kiri slid down the hill and into the camp. The smell to anyone would be awful, but to a dragon it was worse. He slowly entered the camp and searched for any clues on who could of done this
Back at the cabin Bakugou was just getting finished with his work and started on with some kind of meal for them. He entered the cabin and called for Kiri. "Hey dragon breath you hungry or what?" when there was no answer he started to look around the cabin "Eijiro this isn't funny anymore come on out dammit!" As he finished looking in the cabin he noticed that the buckets for the water were still gone. He quickly made his way to the river to find his dragon.
Back at the campsite Kirishima was looking trough some of papers that were spared in the fire. Sure he wasn't the best reader but bakugou has helped him a bit in the last month. As he was searching through the papers something caught his eye. A scroll sealed with a royal symbol was laying on the ground by one of the bodies. As he reached down to grab the scroll the burnt arm reached and grabbed Kirishimas arm causing him to scream.
Bakugou was at the river. When he first got there he noticed the buckets right away. It wasn't like Kiri to be gone so long, something had to be wrong. Bakugou searched the river for any clues and shouted the dragons name. "Kiri where are you!" He kept searching the river bank and started to get worried. "Kirishima Where the hell are you!" As he shouted that an all too familiar scream was hear from across the river.
The mans hand clung to Kirishimas arm with so much force it hurt him. His skin still burned from the fire. "p-please" the man spoke in a wheezing tone it sounded painful. The mans skin was chared and the only thing reconizable on him was half of his face, the rest was ash and coals. His skin reaked of death and blood making Kirishima sick to his stomach"please.... find prince Katsuki and give him the letter" He pointed to the scroll in kirishimas hand and squeezed Kiris arm tighter causing him to wince. The man took in a deep breath that almost sounded like a rattle and coughed out "Please" And with that the mans grip loosened and his eyes seemed to dull.
Bakugou ran through the woods looking for Kirishima. As he serched deeper into the woods he could smell the smoke. He quickly followed the smell and came across the the camp. As bakugou enterd the camp he knew where they were from. His parents family cest was carved into everything and on every banner left standing. He made his way further into the camp and looked aroung. "Kirishima!" he shouted hoping to finaly get a reponce, and preyed he wasn't one of the burt corpses left lying about. As he made his way ito the deep part of the camp he was washed over with a sigh of relif. Sanding just outside a tent was Kiri. Part of him wanted to run to him and hug him, the other wanted to slap him silly for running off and making him think he was dead. He ran to the dragon and took him into his arms. Kirishima was staning there holding the scroll in one hand and his slightly burn wrist in the other. "what happened are you ok?" bakugou asked taking the dragons hand in his to look at the burn. Kiri just stood there, not really sure what to do. He was horrified by the man in the tent, but at the same time sad that he could do nothingg to save him. Bakugou put a hand on Kiris shoulder and shook it enough to snap him back to reality. "Don't you ever leave like that again you hear me!" he said in a stern voice. Kirishima nodded and handed bakugou the scroll. "I guess this is for you.." Kiri said softly. Bakugou took the scroll and took put it in his pouch. "Ill read it later lets get out of here first." As bakugou turned to leave Kiri spoke up. "We cant just leave them like this Katsuki!" Bakugou stood in still. " we didn't even know them Eijiro, lets go" Bakugou started to walk off and Kirirshima started to cry. "These men died just to find you and give you that letter" Kirishima hiccuped and wiped his tears. "Now you can go, but I'm showing them respect!" As he said this he started to untie one of the corpses and lay him down gently. "Fine!" Bakugou said sharply and helped him. "But its still a pain in the ass.."
It took all day, but they managed to burry and mark all the graves of the knights. "thank you Bakugou" Kiri said placing the last flower on a grave. Bakugou didn't say anything he took a deep breath and whispered something under his breath before turning around and headed back to the cabin. Kiri quickly ran up next to him. Bakugou walked with his arm crossed behind his head and eyes closed. "what did you say back there Katsuki?" he asked looking back at the graves as they disappeared in the trees. Bakugou sighed and looked at Kiri with one eye. "I thanked them for their service to my parents ok its not a big deal!" he said as he walked faster. Kiri smiled at him. He really did care, but is too proud to show it.
Back at the cabin Bakugou took out the scroll as Kiri was stirring a pot over the fire. "This better be important if they died for it." he slowly opened the letter and started to read. as he did his eye grew wide and he dropped the letter. "After dinner Kiri pack your things we're leaving." Kiri looked at Bakugou with a mouth full of bread. "Why where we going?" Bakugou was already packing a bag "home.."
