Jonah was starting to panic. He had managed to lose Corbyn in the hallways before first period and even after hours of searching the entire school he still couldn't see him.
"What a great bodyguard I am" He thought, leaning on the lockers and rubbing his forehead.
He had called about a hundred times, all of them only reaching Corbyn's voice mail. Jonah just hoped that the blonde just snuck out on his own and was not abducted, who knows what would happen to him if he failed at keeping the son of the president safe.
The bell rung, indicating the start of lunch. A few students started to walk along the hallways, some of them looking strangely at Jonah.
Jonah decided to leave the school. Maybe Corbyn just went home since the blonde did say he wasn't feeling well earlier in the morning.
He walked down the hallway, heading towards the parking when out of the corner of his eye he saw Tatum Dahl. She looked like she was trying to fix the contents of her locker, her hair in her face.
Jonah slowed down and stared curiously. Her father was his and Corbyn's first and only suspect. Markus Dahl, a journalist that wrote an article that had an impact on the president's reputation.
About a month after releasing the article, he disappeared from the public eye and his article was deleted from the internet. Yet when Jonah traced his records, the last document with his signature was in a form of a credit card company from six months ago so surely he was alive.
Although if it was him, wouldn't the puzzle be too easy? Why would Markus Dahl hold a grudge against the president? Jonah suspected that the culprit was more than just a journalist seeking revenge for God knows what.
For all he knows, the one who's sending the threats to the president could be someone from a long time ago. It was impossible for the threats to be a prank, since the messages were being transmitted to the president's own cellphone.
Jonah watched as Tatum Dahl slam her locker shut and walk towards the cafeteria. He wanted to investigate her more but he had to find Corbyn first. Suddenly his cellphone vibrated in his pocket.
Jonah sighed in relief, it was a text from Corbyn
Corbyn
"Decided not to go to class. Just went somewhere. Sorry for making you worry"
"You had me panicking!!! I spent hours searching for you in the school!!!"
"Hehe sorry. I already went home. Head still hurts"
"Do you want me to come home?"
"No no it's fine"
"While you're there, why don't you... observe Tatum Dahl"
"Okay then"
"I'll see you later"
No words could explain the relief Jonah felt. Corbyn was safe, now he doesn't need to worry about playing bodyguard and detective at the same time.
Jonah thought for while before walking towards the cafeteria doors. He searched the packed cafeteria until he saw her sitting alone on one of the chairs in the far back.
He walked towards her table. The pair of green eyes looked up at him, looking confused and surprised.
"Um m-may I help you?" Tatum Dahl asked him shyly.
"Hi" Jonah greeted cheerfully. "I'm Jonah Marais, we have Lab together. Can I sit with you? The cafeteria's pretty full"
She hesitated for a while and pursed her lips before answering.
"O-okay"
