Chapter Five
The next day I woke up feeling like shit.
I really had dug myself a hole yesterday evening and I just needed to sort it out.
I hadn't woken up in my birth place in a long, long time and a strange sense of calm familiarity rushed over me. I was home. I really had nothing to worry about.
Except the fact that my heart's desire which could not and definitely would not be mine, lay a few rooms across from me and who I am sure I had pissed the hell off last night.
"Why God why!" I groaned, slamming my head into my pillow. I opened the curtain just a bit and saw the sun slowly starting to rise. Sunrise, great. I could have slept in but NO here I am, dwelling.
Well I may as well make the most of it. I leapt up, did my morning shenanigans and after that was done I was ready for the day. Still in my overalls and classic waistcoat, perfect Jo fashion.
Today I was going to go and help out Marmee out in the garden. I was only here for a few more days before I would have to return to the Boarding School and so I planned to spend most of my time with my mother.
However, it seemed I was the only one awake at the time... Surprise, surprise I was 'always up before the birds' as Marmee used to say.
I pulled on some gloves and made my way to the front yard, a light dusting of snow blanketed my surroundings.
Slowly but surely I began to pull the weeds out from the ground. It was hard manual labour, the exact type of work I loved and craved.
As I rummaged around the earth beneath me, that's when I heard it. A slight shuffling behind me. Could it be a bear? I mean it wasn't the season for them but then again anything was possible.
I reached for the closest thing near me, swung round and started whacking the beast before me.
Except...
This beast looked rather odd...
It wasn't that big...
Actually to be fair this beast looked rather small for a beast...
Oh God it seemed the beast wasn't actually a beast at all...
"ARGH! WHAT THE HELL JO!" The beast yelped and sprung back from my jabs, it's brown curly locks flouncing back.
BROWN! CURLY! LOCKS?
"TEDDY???" I screamed back.
"Yes! Teddy!" He groaned, rubbing his arm down, looking quite disheveled.
"Oh my goodness, don't sneak up on me like that! I could have killed you!" I swatted him again.
Dumbo I could have done some major damage on him.
"Ouch! Jo stop that would you?!" He glared at me menacingly.
"And what? With a pair of... gloves?" He questioned, a glimmer of amusement in his voice. I looked down to see the 'weapon' I had reached for in pursuit of my attack. The gloves I had been wearing earlier to pluck the weeds.
"Well they clearly did a number on you, so I don't know why you're laughing mister," I challenged, humour in my voice as I eyed him up.
"Touché," Laurie chuckled.
We both stood there in silence for a few moment, relishing in the warm rays of the sun as opposed to the sharp brisk air of the winter solstice which had seemingly fleeted at some point.

RomanceMaybe I am being too harsh but it's better to be angry at someone than to pine after them. Especially as the man in question is so blatantly unavailable, it's too agonising to endure. ________________________________________ What if Laurie read Jo's...
