As I had thought, it was getting colder the closer we were getting to the mountains. I was shivering and shaking but the wolves didn't mind it. They were used to climates like this, also they have fucking fur all over their bodies so it made sense they were fine. Me on the other hand, I was stark naked in the 50 to 60 degree weather. Normally, that would be just a cold day, not to bad though right? Wrong, the winds were blowing at the same time, making it freezing. The wolves looked at me then at each other and nodded.
Mind-linking. A powerful thing to have when fighting. It helps with everything really if you're in trouble. A shame I couldn't have that with anyone. In fact, the silver wolf and blonde one were the first ones to ever mind link me. It startled me, but they seemed used to that kind of thing. I never really got why I couldn't mind link the masters to tell them anything. Does that just come with the title? Oh well, the Stone Fang pack was behind me now and I had just a few more days to live if I was lucky. So might as well just think about my life and how it was about to end.
" Hey Rogue." The female spoke once more through my mind.
It snapped me out of my thoughts and surprised me, making me jump slightly seeing how they were quiet most of the walk so far. The other three chuckled at my reaction but the female stared them down, making them shift uncomfortably and shrink down. I felt myself mentally chuckle at their responses to her.
"Y-yes?" I spoke with a slight stutter.
"We are going to be stopping for the night. It's dangerous to travel at night in human form." She spoke with plain simple facts. A smart wolf is a good wolf, a dumb wolf is a dead wolf.
It was dangerous to wander around period. Even if you were a wolf, it didn't matter, there were other predators out in the world. Real humans being one of them. Human's, such confusing and complex creatures. Some hunt for sport and fun, kill for the rush, and steal for the joy. But others are there to stop all of that from happening. How strange humans are, and yet we can possess the same form as them.
I sat down on a fallen over log and watched as the wolves began to gather wood and stones without shifting.
'I guess they keep the, "stay a wolf thing" , very serious don't they...'
' Of course they would, you are a rogue on their land. Though you have shown no signs of being a threat, you are still a dangerous person.' My wolf spoke with a cold tone.
'How? I have never even fought any real battle, struggling doesn't count.'
' You will find out when the time comes.' She growled lowly in my head
I growled to myself and just kept watching them. They had already set up the fire and were sitting down near it. Of course I was further away from the flames, so I barely felt anything. The sky turned a darker blue and soon black, the air turned frigid and I shook all the way down to my bones. I had never in my life had to endure this kind of cold, but today was my "lucky" day. I watched as I exhaled air, looking at my breath as it floated and dispersed. To feel warm was a gift, to feel loved was a blessing, only one of these I got at times during my life.
As my teeth chattered and my bones shook, the female wolf looked over to me and motioned for me to come over to the fire. I looked at her and shook my head. Though I was cold, I didn't feel like having a bunch of other wolves growl at me because I decided to sit next to them. Not something I would like to endure. She let out a growl and started getting up. I squeaked and flinched slightly, but then I just sighed and rolled my eyes, standing up from my frozen seat and sitting next to the fire.
The heat was nice against my skin and thawed out what little muscle I had on my body. The fire danced and twirled, enchanting my eyes and drawing me into a calm state of mind. The very way the flames moved, danced, and growled...it felt familiar and soothing. The creatures of the night made their hums and muses, bringing the forest to rest as our Lady Moon casted her silver rays through the trees.I was nearly lulled into a sleep when a voice entered my mind, that voice being one of the males.
