she hadn't allowed herself to tell anyone she loved them since she was nine. no one knew why. one day, she'd tell everyone - even strangers - she loved them. then, she wouldn't talk; she would reply with i love you, too or i love you to the moon and back. she didn't do anything.
mornings, when she was leaving for school, her mom would always call out to her, saying goodbye and that she loved her. most days, the girl whispered a hoarse, "don't,". some days, she wouldn't reply.
she was scared. no. she was terrified. what if her mom just walked out on her like he did? what if all those strangers wanted to get to know her and then just left in the blink of an eye?
she didn't want to go through that pain again. she didn't want to hurt.
she wouldn't love ever again; that only leads to pain. she built walls around her heart. she didn't say i love you anymore. she lost all hope in love.
he wanted to change that.
