"Seth...." April whispered in a small voice.

He crouched beside her, his eyes still fixed on the moving head in front of them.

"They aren't alive..." Her voice trembled with fear.

"What do you mean April..." He knew exactly what she meant, there was no way the head could be moving so long after death otherwise, but he just didn't want to arrive at the horrifying conclusion.

"This is the zombie apocalypse." She said in a way that left no room for argument.

It finally made sense the way everyone had been acting.. they had already been turning. The officer and everyone else had already been decaying while they were alive, which explained the officers progressed state of decay. Does that mean the turning process is slow.. but they said that other kid reacted early..does it vary?.. Will those infected by the first generation zombies turn sooner or not at all? Did everyone get a vaccination at the same time? How did everyone turn at once? Well that boy turned early there may be people that turn later.. Does the disease work like it does in the movies... if you get bit you catch it? Or is it airborne... no then they wouldn't have administered it through the vaccinations.

Stop, focus on the task at hand, you'll figure that out later, just get out of here. April thinks to herself.

April reached for the buckle of the police officer's belt and undid it. As she began to remove the ammunition from the cops side, she heard a loud snarl behind her.

April and Seth quickly turned around to identify where the sound was located. A large herd of zombies from thirty feet away were quickly dashing towards them.

"Shit! Run!" April screamed as she snatched the gun.

Thankfully she had already shoved the spare ammo in her pocket, and the gun was already preloaded. She thought to herself as she ran. April and Seth sprinted towards the front of the school, as they did so, that allowed the snarling monsters behind them to gain on them slightly because they had to run somewhat towards the herd to get to the gated front.

Seth was able to speed ahead of her and he rushed to the gate, holding it open.

"April throw the bag! It's slowing you down!" She took a chance and looked back seeing the crazed walkers gaining on her. As she continued running, she shrugged the bag off and threw it to Seth, he ran forward and grabbed it, and immediately rushed back to the other side of the gate holding it open for her.

"APRIL! RUN RUN! YOU CAN MAKE IT!" She continued running towards him, she felt thankful she had been in cross country, and many other muscle building sports.

But the worse possible thing happened right after he shouted to her.

Her leg suddenly cramped, and she tripped forward.

Fuck! God damn magnesium deficiency! She shouted internally.

Getting up as quickly as she could she hobbled painfully towards Seth, her determination to survive overruled her pain.

She heard an excited shriek from directly behind her, she turned and shot the blonde zombie in the head. She recognized her. It was the fastest girl in cross country. The other walkers... more like fast walkers to running were gaining, this urged her on.

She lunged for the gate and as soon as she was on the other side, Seth slammed the door, automatically locking it. She sat on the ground panting and rubbing her leg trying to get her calf to stop clenching. After a few seconds it thankfully released, but she knew that her deficiency was a deadly weakness and could get her killed. In her mental notes magnesium pills became an item they would need to raid the pharmacies for. Seth was relieved that she was still alive.
